Executive Director of Lifematters, Mary Ann Buckley, Earns New Certification
Bethesda, MD- June 15, 2016- The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) recently
awarded Mary Ann Buckley a Supervisory Leaders in Aging certification, a new program
intended to enhance the health care needs and social services to older adults through
strengthening the supervision of the staff that is providing social services to older adults and their
families. This new program is part of NASW’s efforts to better the hospice care of older adults.
The program provides for the extended care that older adults and their families’ need.
NASW launched the Supervisory Leaders in Aging program in the fall of 2015. This pilot
program is the first in the nation to provide additional supervision for older adults. Masters in
Social Work who work as supervisor’s or managers to staff members who provide social services
to older adults are eligible to train with the Supervisory Leaders in Aging. The training is offered
in four different chapters; New York City, Florida, Illinois, and Maryland. The program will be
extended to other states if it is proven to be successful in the first four states.
Mary Ann Buckley is one of the newly certified Supervisory Leaders from the Maryland training
session in May 2016. Along with being a member of the National Association of Social Workers
and the Aging Life Care Association, Buckley has been a social worker at nursing homes,
rehabilitation hospitals, and has worked with Child Protective Services.
