SECOND SALGA LOCAL GOVERNMENT RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM

Theme: Addressing Inequality Through Inclusive, Sustainable and Viable Local Governments

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM

The second SALGA Research Colloquium, an outcome of a strategic partnership with the University of the Western Cape’s
Dullah Omar Institute, aims to:

o bring together municipalities, academia, local government experts and practitioners, as well as key interest groups
and opinion makers to share and disseminate research relevant to the local government sector,
o create a rare opportunity to explore, debate and share ideas as well as suggest evidence-based solutions with respect
to the many challenges facing municipalities in South Africa,
o provide an opportunity for paper presentations and in-depth discussions with scholars in emerging fields of research,
o serve as a forum where scholars are exposed to the most current research in the field of local government,
o inspire and motivate research-based dialogue about the real problems affecting local government, and

As part of SALGA’s strategic agenda, the colloquium aims to lay a solid base for SALGA’s participation in the knowledge economy as it
undertakes the journey of effectively delivering on its mandate and servicing its members.
