In recent years there is a rapidly growing increase in the use of RFID(Radio
Frequency Identification technology) to enhance the computing environment. One of the pivotal reasons for the popularity of this technology is that it does not require a line of sight method. In other words any device or object having an RFID tag whether it is active or passive can be identified via a radio frequency channel without the need of any contact. RFID technology is being used in varied fields like production tracking, supply chain management and personalised information services. But on the other hand it fails to enforce anonymity completely and is able to accomplish only weak authentication and denial of few other aspects. All of these flaws can be rectified over time(like RFID tags with cryptographically secure authentication) and this technology does have the potential to progressively be very reliable and making the lives of many easier. RFID tag and system on their own are very vast topics consisting of various important parts and even though it is an emerging field it is very well established in many companies. The main aim of this presentation is to improve our outlook and understanding of RFID technology and how future improvements and projects can better the solutions offered today. RFID tags are an improved version of the barcode overcoming it’s very obvious setbacks like barcode is a read only technology and for RFID tags being able to transmit information changes the dynamic altogether. Even keeping inventory in stores is much easier in case of RFID tags as each product’s barcode must be scanned in order to access it later.
