ABSTRACT

Background: Mental disorder is a state where people suffer for mental disfunctio
ns. Common mental disorder, including anxiety and depression, are common prob
lems found in the society. Infection is the stressor of mental disorder. Patients' acc
eptance when learning about their infections are vary, most of them says they are
shock, sad, disappointed, angry, and finally submit to the fact, even some feel des
perate and think that their life is useless. Mental disorder which becomes commob
idity of infection include depression, adjustment disorder, anxiety, stress and the l
osing of life's meaning and purpose.

Methods : This research uses descriptive study with coss sectional planning, to re
search about the relationship of anxiety level on inpatients in Infection Center (IC)
RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar, conducted on 12-24 August 2013. T
his research uses total sampling technique. Research data is prime and secondary f
rom questionnaire and patient's medical record.

Result : From 27 respondents, there are 14 respondents (51,9%). More than hald t
he respondets are women (59,3%) with average 41-65 years old, with mediocre ed
ucation level (48,1%), have family income less then four hundred and fifty thousa
nd Rupiah per month (48,1%), and suffer from Lung TB (81,5%).

Conclusion : There is a relationship between sex and inpatient's anxiety in Infecti


on Center of RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar with 0,034 p value. How
ever, there is no relationship among age, education level, income, disease and anxi
ety.
