10-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Card

1 10-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Card

The 10-port 10GE card occupies a single slot in the chassis.

Figure 1 10-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Line Card

This card requires a separate XFP transceiver for each port. The following
10-Gbps XFP transceivers are supported:

• 10GBase-SR—Short Reach

10-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Card

• 10GBase-LR—Long Reach

• 10GBase-ER—Extended Reach

• 10GBase-ZR—Extreme Reach

• 10GBase-DWDM—Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing

Stop!
Transceiver modules that have not been tested and qualified by Ericsson may
cause power and overheating problems on line cards. Install only transceivers
approved by Ericsson for use on the line card. For more information, see
Manage an Unsupported Transceiver.

• OOS; check the FAIL LED

to see if a fault is present.
• In standby mode; check the
STANDBY LED.
STD BY

HOTSWAP Blue Steady The card has been deactivated

and can be removed from the
chassis.
Blinking The card is being activated or
deactivated and should not be
removed from the chassis.
Off The card is activated and
should not be removed from
the chassis.
LINK/ACT Green Steady The port is connected.
Blinking The port is having activity or
passing traffic.
Off The port is disconnected.

(1) The STD BY LED on line cards is not functional.

(1) SW card is only supported on the SSR 8020 router.

1.2 Card Placement

Line cards and SSCs can be installed in any full-height slot in the SSR chassis.

1.3 Line and Switch Card Initialization Sequence

Line and switch cards support the following card-initialization sequences:

• Cold boot is performed when a card is powered up or when a user runs

the reload card command. Normal power-on diagnostics (POD) and
power-on self test (POST) sequences are performed.

• Out-of-service diagnostic (OSD) boot occurs by user request with the diag
out-of-service command. This boot sequence runs more extensive
diagnostic tests than a cold boot.

If you enter the show chassis command while the card is in diag mode,
the operational status is shown as oos-diag.

1.4 Provisioning and Configuring the Line Card

Warning!
Risk of card damage. When downgrading Ericsson IP Operating System to an
older release that does not recognize a particular line card or Smart Services
Card (for example, a node with 20-port 1/10GE line card which was introduced
in SSR 14B release downgraded to SSR 13B release), the new line card may
get damaged. To prevent this from happening, remove or unconfigure the
card prior to the system downgrade. Contact your support representative for
further assistance.

Stop!
The line card and the Ericsson IP Operating System must be running the
correct version of the boot ROM. The operating system on the card must be
Linux with kernel version 2.6 or later, with the capability to support ccNUMA
architecture. To avoid a serious equipment outage in the field, you must run the
operating system Release 14.1.1 or later on the card.

Note: When you move a line card or Smart Services Card from one chassis
to a newer chassis (for example, from an SSR 8020 to an SSR 8004
chassis), the card continues to operate with the older image. Images
prior to 14A CP01 do not support the SSR 8004 chassis and an image
mismatch may cause the card to reboot repeatedly. Contact your
support representative to recover from this condition.

To provision an SSR chassis for the line card:

1. Use the card command.

2. To monitor the progress, use the show chassis command.
