1.what did Khumbu look like 50 years ago?

Fifty years ago,Khumbu had thick forests,and the mountains were covered with red and pink
flowers.

Khumbu today look like a desert,partly because over 25000 tourists pass throught every year and
the place where airport is was a grassy field.

3.what problems are caused by tourists in Khumbu?

Destruction of trails,because all walk in the same place.

Dirt ,because they drop their water bottles and soda cans everywhere.

Deforestation,because they have cut down the forest to build tea house and cut trees to use like
firewood.

The tourist have left local people without wood,now they have to walk many miles to find
firewood.

They have started a program to sell cheap kerosene.

One group called the Himalayan trust has started to plant more than a million trees in Khumbu.
