Procedure

We are asking for your assistance as we try to explore the parents’ perspective with
regards to their involvement in their children’s academics. If you accept to aid us in our research,
you will be asked to engage in an interview facilitated by three (3) of the researchers involved in
the study. We wish to conduct the interview within your residence for we believe that it would be
a place where you will be able to relax as we discuss the questions. However, if you are not
comfortable with us entering your houses, we may conduct the interview elsewhere that is
convenient for you.

The participants involved in the study will be asked to answer personal questions that
may help us gain a better understanding of a parents’ motivation for pushing their children
towards academic excellence. Should any question that you are not comfortable answering arise,
you may inform one of the three interviewers in order for them to ask the next question. The
entire interview will be recorded by the researchers for transcription. However, the identities of
the participants will not be disclosed in the recording. The recorded interview will be stored in a
flash drive until transcription is complete. Once finished, the recordings will be permanently
deleted.
