The Duterte reader, as it tries to present various angles to view and analyze the factors that led to the

placement of a modern-populist leader in Rodrigo Duterte, has showcased various lenses such as
Duterte’s brand of populism, regional and cultural mind-frames, statistical analysis in particular issues
such as drug war, and the ideological repackaging to name a few. While most of the articles in the book
faces the dilemma on how to situate the individual Filipino in the face of a populist leader, the first
article in the book that applied the concept of “political time” to explain the over all historical political
pattern of regime shifts tells us a larger story to the so called phenomenon of “Dutertismo”.
