You are going to see images of five cities and their landmarks. Write a
paragraph describing each city and country it belongs and the landmark shown.
Use the vocabulary from the box for the descriptions. The first one is done for

New York is a big city in the

New York (USA) – The Statue of Liberty
United States (North America).
It takes thousand of visitors
every year. The city has a
population of around 8 million
people. There is a lot to see
and do in New York. You can
visit the Central Park, the
Metropolian museum and
Time’s Square. In the picture
you can see the Statue of
Liberty, a monumet built
between 1875 and 1986. It is
93 meters tall. The statue is
located on Liberty Island in the
Hudson River.

Rome (Italy) – Saint Peter’s Square
Sydney (Australia) – The Sydney Opera
House
Rome is an Italian city of 2 857
321 inhabitants, capital of the
Lazio region and Italy. It is the
most populous municipality in
Italy and the fourth most
populous city in the European
Union. There we can find the
Plaza de San Pedro is perhaps
the best known square in the
world and one of the most
beautiful. It was built by Bernini
in the mid-17th century and can
accommodate more than
300,000 people.
Sydney is the largest and most
populous city in Australia and
Oceania, with a population in its
metropolitan area close to 4.92
million.
It is located in southeastern
Australia, on the shores of the
wide bay of Sydney (Port
Jackson).

Opera House is a performing arts
center in several places in
Sydney Harbor in Sydney, New
South Wales, Australia. It is one
of the most famous and
distinctive buildings of the 20th
century.
The building consists of multiple
places of performance, which
together house more than 1,500
performances a year, attended
by more than 1.2 million people.

Edinburgh (Scotland) – Edinburgh Castle
Dubai (United Arab Emirates) – The Burj
Khalifa
Edinburgh Castle is an ancient
fortress erected on a rock of
volcanic origin located in the
center of the city of Edinburgh. It
has been used for military
purposes since the twelfth
century, being intended for civil
uses only in very recent times. It
is located at the top of Castlehill
Street, one of the four streets
that form the Royal Mile. The
castle is open to visitors and is
managed by the specialized
agency Historic Scotland. This is
the most visited paid tourist
attraction in Scotland.
Three of its sides are protected
by steep cliffs, and access to the
castle is limited to a steep slope
on the eastern side of the castle.
Dubai is an emirate city of the
United Arab Emirates known for
its luxurious trade, ultramodern
architecture and lively nightlife,
there we can find The Burj
Khalifa is the tallest building in
the world with a height of 828
meters. More than 12,000 people
from 30 countries have
participated in the construction of
the building. He was previously
known as Burj Dubai (Dubai
Tower). The construction of the
Burj Khalifa began on September
21, 2004 and ended on January
4, 2010, more than a year later
than planned. The skyscraper
stands out for having a large
number of residential floors,
something unusual so far.
