opportunity to learn other cultures by discovering other regions of the world or other
peoples. Cable television is the technical solution for distributing television programs to
consumers. Today we have several companies that offer cable services. For instance, just
one cable company in India has more than 80 million subscribers. In the United States,
nearly 90 percent of the population has cable TV. Unfortunately this type of service is not
available everywhere. Because viewers have limited options and because cable
companies overcharge for their services, I believe that viewers have a right to use free,
Cable companies charge a ridiculous amount for their services. As in the folowing
examples, in the U.S. The family-plan package starts at about $80 per month, has a
separate installation fee, and does not even include the movie channels. These packages
consist of nine to eleven special movie channels. All the same, only two of the nine are
usually worth watching. Most of the movies shown are old and tend to be constantly
repeated. Consequently, costumers are encouraged to get other packages to obtain the
channels they want. There is one that includes phone services and cable for $100, but this
discounted price is only good if you are a new customer. Once this initial period is over,
the price for the same service increases more than $60 per month. The service is simply
not worth paying for. Nevertheless, there is another alternative called digital satellite.
Satellite service is cheaper and the quality is inferior. However, it is not a good
weather. Especially, many buildings do not allow tenants to use satellite dishes because
strong wind, snow, or rainstorms can knock down the dish and cause an accident. An
individual can not order satellite unless all, or at least a majority, of the tenants agree.
Therefore, I see no other option than to use the cable signal illegally.
