Step ONE

We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives


had become unmanageable.

Step 1 is about letting go. You admit you have a problem and begin to seek out
help... admitting powerlessness allows you to break the cycle of addiction...

Romans 6:6
For we know that our old personality was nailed to the stake along with (Christ)
in order for our sinful body to be made powerless, so that we should no longer
go on being slaves to sin. (an addiction)

How Do You Complete This Step?


• Accept that something is wrong in your life and that you no longer have
control. You must admit complete defeat before building a new life.

Psalm 79:9
Help us, O God of our salvation,For the sake of your glorious name; Rescue us
and forgive our sins for the sake of your name.
• Embrace this truth

• Understand that recovery can’t be done alone, and acknowledge that you
need help.

Psalm 60:11
Help us in our distress, For salvation by humans is worthless.

How Can you Complete Step 1?


• Abstain from alcohol and/or drugs: ...

• Abandon pride and seek humility: Once you admit your problems and
mistakes, you will find modesty and humbleness. You can’t admit embrace
powerlessness if you’re still holding on to your pride.

Humble yourselves in the eyes of Jehovah, and he will exalt you

Myths About This Step?


• Powerlessness means you’re weak: Admitting powerlessness is a crucial
step on the path to freedom and strength. It takes honesty and courage to
accept that alcohol and/or drugs have taken over your life.

Joel 3:10
Let the weak one say: “I am powerful.” --- Because you now rely in God
1 John 1:8
If we make the statement, “We have no sin (no addicton),” we are misleading
ourselves and the truth is not in us.
• You have to hit rock bottom before you’re ready to get help: It doesn’t take
a major life event to open your eyes to your addiction or a developing addiction.
Sometimes all it takes is a realization that alcohol is causing you more pain
than the pain you aim to escape from.

Maybe you became addicted to alcohol, drugs, rage, pornography to


escape pain.

In the end all these things cause more pain than the initial pain you
felt.

Psalm 32:10
Many are the pains of the wicked;But the one trusting in Jehovah is surrounded
by His loyal love.
