INTRODUCTION

Causes of Addiction

1. Drugs

2. Cigarette

3. Internet

4. Gambling

The biological processes that cause addiction

involve the reward pathways in the brain. These circuits

provide rushes of positive feeling and feel-good chemicals

to "reward" substance use. The areas of the brain

responsible for stress and self-control also undergo long-

term changes during an addictive disorder.

DATA
I. DRUGS

Drug addiction, also called substance use disorder,

is a disease that affects a person's brain and behavior and

leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or

illegal drug or medication. Substances such as alcohol,

marijuana and nicotine also are considered drugs. When

you're addicted, you may continue using the drug despite

the harm it causes.

Drug addiction can start with experimental use of a

recreational drug in social situations, and, for some

people, the drug use becomes more frequent. For others,

particularly with opioids, drug addiction begins with

exposure to prescribed medications, or receiving

medications from a friend or relative who has been

prescribed the medication.

The risk of addiction and how fast you become

addicted varies by drug. Some drugs, such as opioid

painkillers, have a higher risk and cause addiction more

quickly than others.

II. CIGARETTES

It’s no secret that smoking or chewing tobacco is

dangerous for your health. Many people try to quit and are

successful. Still, many others try to quit and fail. That

may be due to the addictive nature of smoking or chewing

tobacco. These habits cause changes in your body and in the

way you act. The changes in your body are caused by an

addiction to nicotine. That’s the main ingredient in

tobacco products. The changes in the way you act developed

over time as you bought tobacco smoke products, lit them,

and smoked them, or started using chewing tobacco. These

changes have become habit.

When you have a tobacco habit, many things seem

to go along with having a cigarette or a dip or chew. These

might include having a cup of coffee or an alcoholic drink,

being stressed or worried, talking on the phone, driving,

socializing with friends, or wanting something to do with

your hands or mouth.

III. INTERNET

The Internet has made our lives easier in many

ways, for example it provides easy access to information

and entertainment. However, when used too much, it can

cause depression, obsession, anxiety and even isolation,

which are all symptoms of Internet addiction.

Internet addiction is described as an impulse

control disorder, which includes the overuse of the

Internet in every form: social media, video games,

messenger, video websites, and blogs. Even though this

disorder does not involve the use of an intoxicating drug,

it is very similar to pathological gambling.

IV. GAMBLING

Compulsive gambling, also called gambling disorder,

is the uncontrollable urge to keep gambling despite the

toll it takes on your life. Gambling means that you're

willing to risk something you value in the hope of getting

something of even greater value.

Gambling can stimulate the brain's reward system

much like drugs or alcohol can, leading to addiction. If

you have a problem with compulsive gambling, you may

continually chase bets that lead to losses, hide your

behavior, deplete savings, accumulate debt, or even resort

to theft or fraud to support your addiction.

Compulsive gambling is a serious condition that can

destroy lives. Although treating compulsive gambling can be

challenging, many people who struggle with compulsive

gambling have found help through professional treatment.

CONCLUSION

Addiction is an involuntary process. It may not be

fair to associate a person’s addictive behavior with his

moral standards or character. The brain response to an

addict changes in such a way that he continues to live with

the bad habits and addictions in spite of understanding its

dangerous implications. Apart from therapy and medicines,

the person requires a lot of love, affection, support, and

motivation to get over with the addiction.
