University Consultant Comments:
|Andrew has had a successful internship at William Aberhart High School, where he has been teaching Biology 20
Jand Science 10. Andrew has developed positive relationships with students and staff members, and has become a
‘valued member of the school community. He attended staff meetings and all professional development activities
which were expected of teachers. In addition to his teaching assignment, Andrew also assisted with the Swim
and Dive Athletic teams, The GSA/QSA Club, The Conico Phillips Food Drive and the Terry Fox Run. Andrew
also volunteered for the Biology 20 Kananaskis Field Lab and an overnight Field Research Trip with the Biology
20 Advanced Placement Class. He also assisted in IPP construction, meet the teacher evening, and Parent Teacher
Interviews.
|Andrew developed comprehensive long range plans, unit plans and daily lesson plans and ensured that he was
‘well prepared for every class. Andrew's knowledge of the Program of Studies ensured that his students were
successful in meeting leaming outcomes. His materials were always well organized and easily accessible.
Andrew used a variety of strategies to connect with and engage all students, resulting in appropriate behavior and
{smooth transitions. In the beginning of his internship, he resorted a great deal to a lecturing method, He soon
realized that this was not the best way to engage the students and sought in following classes to structure the class
‘where students would be actively engaged with the material. This maximized teaching and learning time.
Andrew's knowledge of a wide variety of topics and issues was exemplary. As his time in the school progressed,
hhe began to use a variety of teaching strategies and activities to meet the needs of his students, which piqued
students’ interest and increased engagement. During my observations Andrew interjected short videos which
allowed the students to clearly understand the concepts he introduced.
Andrew demonstrated skill in all subject areas for which he was responsible, and displayed a strong work ethic,
‘enthusiasm and a positive attitude at all times. Andrew constantly reflected on his practice, welcomed
constructive support and made changes as necessary in order to maximize student learning.
Andrew developed formative assessments, entered report card marks and discussed student progress at parent
teacher interviews.
Andrew is a competent beginning teacher with personal and professional integrity. Because of his passion for
{teaching and learning, [ am confident that with support, he will be a valuable staff member and will serve his
students well throughout his teaching career. It was truly a privilege to work with Andrew during the last four
months.
