UNEARTHING “TOMORROWLAND”

Everyone find technology interesting, and many were curious about some things. Science-
fiction mystery adventure film is one of the best genre of movies, especially in America. Bound by a
shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius
inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an
enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as "Tomorrowland."
A young inventor, attended a New York World’s Fair, to sell his prototype jetpack. It is
rejected by the judge named David Nix, because it doesn’t work. He was disappointed and sad when
suddenly a girl named Athena, handed him a pin with a “T” embossed on it, telling him to follow her.
Out of the curiosity and fighting spirit he always has, he then followed the girl who is with the judge
earlier. Upon following her, he then transported to Tomorrowland, a futuristic cityscape, where
advanced robots fixed his jetpack, allowing him to fly and join the secretive world. In the present, a
teenage girl named Casey sabotages multiple times already the demolition plan of a NASA launch
site. Her father, Eddie, is a NASA engineer, but faces redundancy. Casey was caught and arrested.
At the police station, she found a strange pin in her belongings. While touching it, the pin transports
her to Tomorrowland. Her adventure stopped when the battery runs out. She sought help from her
younger brother Nate, they searched about the pin and they found a store who were placed in
Houston memorabilia, so Casey went there. The owners, Hugo and Ursula, attack her when she is
unable to answer where she got the pin. Athena, who gave Casey the pin, suddenly appeared and
defeated the owners who were actually Audio-Animatronics, who self-destruct and destroy the shop.
After Casey and Athena steal a car, Athena reveals she is an animatronic, purposed to find and
recruit people who fit the ideals of Tomorrowland. Athena drops Casey off outside an adult Frank’s
house. Frank declines Casey’s request to take her to Tomorrowland, inside Frank’s house; Casey
finds something marking the end of the world. Frank warns her that the future is doomed, but she
disagrees. Animatronic assassins appear to kill Casey, but she and Frank escape. Frank resents
Athena for lying to him about her true nature. He doesn’t agree to help them get to Tomorrowland.
Using a teleportation device, the three travel to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Frank explains
that Gustave Eiffel, Jules Verne, Nikola Tesla, and Thomas Edison co-founded Plus Ultra, a secret
society of futurists, creating Tomorrowland in another dimension, free to make scientific
breakthroughs without obstruction. The three use an antique rocket hidden beneath the Eiffel Tower
– called the Spectacle – to travel to Tomorrowland. There, they find Tomorrowland in a state of
decay. David Nix, now Tomorrowland’s governor, greets them. They travel to a tachyon machine,
invented by Frank, which accurately predicted the worldwide catastrophe. Casey refuses to accept
the world will end, causing the future to temporarily alter. While Frank attempts to convince Nix to
listen, he refuses, arresting the intruders. Casey realizes the tachyon machine is telling humanity
that the world will end, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. They confront Nix, who admits he tried to
prevent the future by projecting such images to humanity as a warning. Instead, they embraced
the apocalypse in fiction, refusing to act to make a better future for their world. Frank, Casey, and
Athena attempt to use a bomb to destroy the machine, leading to a fight with Nix. The bomb is
accidentally thrown through a portal to an uninhabited island on Earth, the explosion pinning Nix’s
leg. Athena sees a vision of the future where Frank is shot by Nix, and she jumps in the way of his
attack, mortally wounding her. Making peace with Frank, Athena activates her self-destruct
sequence, destroying the machine, but kills Nix too. In the present, Frank and Casey lead
Tomorrowland, recruit Eddie and Nate, and create a new group of recruitment animatronics like
Athena, who they are addressing at the beginning of the film. Given pins, the animatronic children
set out to recruit new dreamers and thinkers for Tomorrowland.
The actors and the actresses did great; they were the real fit in their own roles. Being a part of a
science-fiction mystery adventure film is not easy. I adored how Raffy Cassidy played her role as an
audio-animatronic droid recruiter. Britt Robertson also did a great job playing her role as an optimistic
and tech-savvy teen. They all did great but I really love and salute Raffy and Britt for playing their roles
as Athena and Casey.

We like the scene where tomorrowland was showed in the beginning of the film and in Casey’s
adventure there before the pin runs out of battery. We also loved the scene in the Eiffel Tower, we’re
amazed on how they filmed the antique rocket hidden beneath the Eiffel Tower who they called
the Spectacle which they used to travel to Tomorrowland.

The lesson of the story is to not give up. Just like the fighting spirit little Frank has and Casey’s
optimistic character. We should believe in ourselves that nothing is impossible, we could make things
possible when we believe in it and never give up, reaching your goals. We shouldn’t be afraid inventing
things that couldn’t harm anyone. The film also said or rather showed us that future really is a better
place especially because of the modern technologies.

In our opinion, the movie would capture the hearts of the kids, the teens and the adults who
were in to a science-fiction mystery adventure film. We therefore recommend this movie to those
people who really love the genre. The MPAA rating of the movie is PG because the kids still need
guidance because the film showed some violence.

The film is good. Everyone did a great job. We’ll give 10/10 for the actors and actresses. 10/10
also for the sceneries because they were beautiful and wonderful, it feels or rather looks like realistic
future.
