A mum says the costs of school uniform are forcing her to choose between food and

making sure her son goes back to school �equipped with the essentials�. Karen, 50,
from Birkenhead, is calling on the government to ensure all councils have the funds
available to provide uniform grants for families on low incomes after the one she
relied on was abolished. She is one of millions of low-income parents across the
country who struggle financially during the summer break as a result of having to
contend with the costs of food for children who would otherwise receive free school
meals. The added pressures of rising childcare and uniform costs, means three
