Summary
Linkk Busway Systems and Static Power personnel has visited and inspected tap-off-
unit at level 27, 26 floors. It was been informed that Neutral contact clip at tap-off-unit at
level 27 were found with arching mark. Others phases contact clip are in good condition. Root
cause of this case may due to loosen contact at N phase at the plug-in clip.
In our experience, it is most likely that installer had forced open the plug-in clips to
ease their installation initially, which caused damage to the spring function of the clip. Over
time upon loading, this would lead to further loosening which explains the poor contact
between plug in clip and busduct.
Also, from initial investigation, found that the neutral consist of high current. High neutral
currents in buildings usually result from two situations:
i. Most common, heavily unbalanced loads
ii. Current harmonic distortion
This high neutral current will cause excessive heat to occur in the contact area of circuit
connection.

Recommendation:
With the overall situation of installation issues at this site, we recommend
replacement of the defect tap off unit in problematic areas as remedial action.
As preventive measure, recommended to schedule annual or twice-yearly thermal
scanning to detect any possible problematic tap off units for service and detail inspection.
