Eon

-the largest division of the geologic time scale.

-spans hundreds of to thousands of millions of years

Phanerozoic Eon- is the current geological eon in the geological timescale, and the
one during which abundant animals and plants has existed. It covers 541 million years
to the present.

3 Eras of Phanerozoic

Paleozoic- was the most dramatic geological, climatic, and evolutionary change. Fish,
arthropods, amphibians, anapsids, synapsids, euryapsids, and diapsids all evolved in
this era. Has 6 periods.

Permian Period

Mesozoic- follows up after the Paleozoic era, this era was known as “The Age of
Reptiles”. There are 3 periods.

Triassic Period

Cenozoic- follows up after the Mesozoic era, this era was known as “The Age of
Mammals” because of the extinction of most reptiles, this gave the mammals the
opportunity to develop. There are 2 periods.
