A World Heritage Site is a place of “OUTSTANDING UNIVERSAL VALUE" around the world, listed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) due to its Cultural and/ physical importance for the collective interests of humanity. This is embodied in an international treaty called the ‘Convention concerning the protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage’, adopted by UNESCO in 1972.
