A Day in the Life of an Etruscan

My name is Vivinna. I am a 37-year-old Etruscan woman. About ten years ago when my

father passed away, I inherited land from him. My husband and I tend to it. My husband’s name

is Caesius, he is a 43-year-old. We have two children, a son named Thefarie an 11-year-old and

a daughter named Sesanseia who is a 9-year-old.

Because we are a lower caste family, we are not able to experience nor attend

banquets, which invites only most of the upper caste families. They do not like to treat us with

much kindness, and we do our best to keep our relationship and encounters as friendly as

possible. Instead, in any down time my family and I have, we put effort into more peaceful

hobbies. Sesanseia and I enjoy making all sorts of pottery and placing it around the house and

farm. Caesius and Thefarie enjoy woodwork. They also put their finished products up around

the house and farm. Though our income depends on the harvest, we do not have a lot of free

time and only have three pottery vases in our house, one of which contains the ashes of my late

father, and two woodworked figurines.

Today is Saturday, therefore tomorrow my family and I will go to the local temple and

say our prayers to the Gods. Especially Veltha, the God of vegetation. We will also pray for

peace with invading Romans. We do not like their presence, but do not personally want to fight

with them.
