FOR MORE INFORMATION WHICH DEGREE?

schulich.ucalgary.ca/future/grad Professional Master’s degrees are course-based programs that prepare students for advancement
in their profession. In the case of engineering, we offer a course-based Master of Engineering —
also known as MEng.
Research degrees involve a significant research component and generally include a thesis.
Research degree programs are normally full-time, and students are usually funded through a
combination of awards — both internal scholarships and external scholarships — support from
supervisors, and teaching assistantships. We offer both Master of Science and Doctorate programs
in a variety of engineering disciplines to match your interests.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The Schulich School of Engineering established common minimum admission requirements for all
graduate programs. Some programs may have additional requirements above those listed below:
Master’s Programs
• BSc degree or equivalent
• A minimum admission grade point average of 3.00 on a four-point scale or equivalent
• Two reference letters

Doctor of Philosophy
• MSc degree, or transfer from MSc program, or, in exceptional cases, BSc degree or equivalent
• A minimum admission grade point average of 3.50 on a four-point scale or equivalent
• Transfer from MSc to PhD program is possible only after the successful completion of all courses
required for the MSc degree with a minimum GPA of 3.50
• Two reference letters

International Students
Admission requirements vary depending on the country where previous undergraduate and / or
graduate degrees were earned. If your primary language is not English you will be required to fulfill
an English language proficiency requirement.

MY GRADSKILLS
My GradSkills workshops and resources are available to graduate students to help you develop
skills to successfully complete your graduate degree and to provide you with a competitive
advantage to succeed in your future career.
