Feature page: The Wheels of learning

“It’s not huge acts that make someone inspirational. It’s the daily effort
you give to better yourself in whatever situation you’re in’’. Among the
transferees for this school year is Richwill Gadia and his siblings from
. Richwill is not a typical pupil. He is among those what we called
Person with Disability (PWD). He was born having the disease called
“Osteogenesis Imperfecta” also known as brittle bone disease, a group
of genetic disorders which mainly affect the bones. He is small of his
age and the only thing that makes him move is his “wheelchair”
According to his father, Mr. William Gadia, Richwill had to go to a
regular check-up at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) where he is
being treated by doctors. This is the main reason why both of his
parents had to work abroad to support his medical needs which is
considered a lifetime medication.
What is so special about this kid?
Believe it or not despite his condition, Richwill never had insecurities at
all. He plays, laughs and mingle with his classmates. He even
participates in the class discussion and oftentimes get an average score
on his quizzes. Like his father said, it is only his body that is being
affected by the disease but not his mental ability.
Although Richwill spend most of his life in his wheelchair, he is still
considered an inspiration not only to PWD’s but also to children of his
age. His determination and his will to learn is truly remarkable. This kid
wants to prove something and show everyone that his disability will
never be a hindrance in achieving his dreams.
