OPENING SCENE

ACT 1 - INTRODUCTION TO HEAVEN:

MOTHER ANGEL: Aolani.

AoLANI: Yes, Mother Angel.

MOTHER ANGEL: It’s time for you to meet the angels returning from
heaven’s playground.

AOLANII: I will leave at dawn. (AOLANI, 21, wears glasses, nerdy, enters
through the cloudy fog. (Trips) Gotta watch that first step. Here I am at
earth’s outlet. (Yawns) Excuse me had to get up pretty early.

Well come on, we’ve been expecting you. (Pauses)

Dreaming!

No this is not a costume party. I’m the real thang. What you mean you
not ready to go. (Pause) Say what! You don’t want to miss your surprise
party! Well surprise! You ain’t gonna be there. (She turns to leave, and
looks back.)

Aolani (folds arms) Look, I know we have eternity but that doesn’t mean I
wait that long. (Taps foot)

Where you going there’s gonna be a a party like no other, cuz, everybody
knows that ain’t no party like a heaven coming party cuz a heaven coming
party don’t stop!(Laughs - throws hands out)(Pauses)

Who said angels don’t talk like this? Which one of you earth angels or us
heaven-residing ones? (Pause) Huh, thought so. Say what?! (snaps
fingers)

No you didn’t say I have to convince you to come. Hello it’s heaven. You
know heaven. Okay, Okay! She cracks knuckles, looks upward and says:

AOLANI Hit it! (SONG 1)

Aolani (cont'd) (cont'd)(gestures - steps aside)Convinced Now? That’s

what I thought. Aolani exits.

(SONG 2) plays as Angels step out the audience slowly make their way into
the aisle and toward heaven. Aolani whispers to WINGS, a MALE ANGEL,
sitting on a cloud.

Aolani (whispers) Wings, Wings.

Wings: (stretches) Huh.

Aolani: They’ve arrived.

WINGS :(Yawns)Already.
Aolani(nudges him) Wake up.

WINGS: (Yawns)I’m up. (Stretches)

You missed the party of all parties. (Dance) There was dancing and
singing and moving to the groovin.

Wings sits back down and bows his head.

Aolani (nudges Wings)Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, maybe next time, but right now the
world is waiting. . .

WINGS: Okay, Okay, Good morning sun, Good morning animals, and trees,
seeds good morning world.WINGS looks downward at the OTHER ANGELS who are
resting. He begins to gently touch them, they raise yawning.

WINGS:Wake up, Wake up. . . Each angel wakes another, shakes hands, some
hug.

CUE: START SONG 3

THE ANGELS exit, leaving Wings alone looking at earth.

Wings: Maybe some day I’ll visit you again, when I’m not too busy.
He opens his book, and is interrupted by the sound of 2 SMALL ANGELS.
AMADEUS has small wings pulls on BLISS’ larger wings.

BLISS:(leans back) No! No! No! I said no!

AMADEUS: But why not? You let me before.

BLISS: Yeah, and look what you did! (BLISS touches her bent wing.)

AMADEUS: I didn’t do that?

BLISS: Yes, (with attitude - rolls neck). You did! Remember, when you
flew into that space ship.

AMADEUS: (laughs) Oh yeah, my good, they thought I was a shooting star.

(Laughs) You should have seen the look on the astronauts face. Nobody
will believe him. He thought I was an alien.

BLISS: That’s not funny and the answer’s still no!

AMADEUS: Come on, just for a little while.

BLISS: I said No!

AMADEUS: (pulls her wings again) WINGS Behave!

BLISS: Why?

WINGS: Because that’s the heavenly law.

BLISS: Tell him that, he wants to switch wings.

WINGS: You know that you not supposed to do that.

BLISS: I know and I wish I hadn’t done it. Look what he did.

AMADEUS: It was an accident.

Wings: (sees AMADEUS pushes BLISS)I said behave or do you want Mother
Angel to deal with you?

BLISS/AMADEUS: (together)No, we’ll be good little angels. We promise.

(Both cross their fingers.)

THE VOICE OF MOTHER ANGEL SPEAKS

MOTHER ANGEL: Did I hear someone speak my name?

Wings: I spoke of you. AMADEUS was asking about the growth of his wings.

MOTHER ANGEL: As much as I want to give him a chance to grow them, his
hour has not come yet.

AMADEUS: But when?

MOTHER ANGEL: You will know when the time is right, now you two go find

(Aolani and the two small Angels exit)

MOTHER ANGEL: Wings, there is something I need to discuss with you.

Wings: Yes, mother.

MOTHER ANGEL: I’ve been thinking.

WINGS: About what?

(Aolani, Amadeus and Bliss enter and interrupts the conversation)

Aolani: Mother Angel, Mother Angel, the earth angel, Ori James is about
to make an unplanned departure from heaven’s playground.

Wings: How do you know?

AOLANI: Hello, Angel here.

WINGS: This earth angel is not scheduled to return for another 65 earth
years.

AMADEUS: And then there was a sound of crying.

MOTHER ANGEL: I heard no crying here.

Bliss: Of course not, who would cry in heaven?

MOTHER ANGEL: You are right? Forgive me, I get a little light headed.
Must be the air up here.

Aolani: There’s more!

MOTHER ANGEL: Go on.

Aolani
Moments later, his words ascended through heaven’s gates.
MOTHER ANGEL (o.S.)
What were they?
AOLANI
Real love doesn’t exist, then I sensed him heading for earth’s outlet.
BlisS
Will he come here?
AOLANI
No, his love energy is so low it will only allow him to drift so high.
MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
Do you know what that means!
AMADEUS
Yes, that we are not singing enough love into the world.
Aolani
Or that someone is partying and not doing the will of our Heavenly
Father.
MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
Wings, you are assigned to have someone sing love onto the earth and
especially onto those who have forgotten from whence they came.
WinGS
Forgive me, Mother Angel, lately I have been distracted.
MOTHER ANGEL
I know.
BlISS
Who will sing?
AOLANI
I will.
Amadeus whistles and turns away.
MOTHER ANGEL (O.s.)
Thank you Aolani for volunteering again, but this time I think Wings
should do it.
WinGS
Me, but. . .
MOTHER ANGEL (o.s.)
Now for the chosen song, Aolani I believe you have it.
Aolani pushes Wings aside.
Aolani
Yes, I do.
Aolani hands it to Wings, who is not pleased.
MoTHER ANGEL (o.S.)
Wings, is something not righteous about the chosen song.
WINGS
It is a hymn.
AMADEUS
Surprised!
AoLANI
You don’t approve.
WINGS
I didn’t say that.
BLISS
Well it sounds like it to me!
WinGS
No disrespect to you Mother Angel or Aolani but we always sing hymns.
MOTHER ANGEL
Well, since you are the chosen one, you may chose another song. I will
give you but a moment for the world is waiting.
Aolani stalks off, passing 3 ADULT ANGELS; 2 female; carrying
tambourines and 1 male, wearing shades.

Hey TOBIAS, SUMMER, SPRING.
Tobias notices Wings is distracted.
TOBIAS
What’s wrong with my main angel, Wings?
SUMMER
Why ask, we all know, it’s Aolani. Again.
TOBIAS
And to think her name means heavenly cloud!
SPRING
More like a thunderstorm. You want me to talk to her (shakes tambourine)
Tambourine and I can give her a shake down.
TOBIAS
Dang girl, ain’t no ghettos in heaven. You should’ve left that attitude
at the playground.
SUMMER
Tobias is right, if Mother Angel heard you, she’d baptize you in a
waterfall of scriptures.
Wings
Hey, a little help here. Aolani doesn’t understand that the songs that we
sing are nice . . .
TOBIAS
But we need to pour down some real love. So why don’t you tell her?
WINGS
Me. No way. Have you ever tried telling Aolani that there’s a better way
of doing one of her ideas. . .
SUMMER

TOBIAS

(convinced)
Okay, I’ll do it. Open the gate to heaven’s playground.
Wings sing (song 4) All Angels start to do a dance routine. Aolani stands
watching.
TOBIAS
Now that’s how we do it!
(CLAPPING SOUND EFFECTS). The other angels bow their heads and exit.
WinGS
Forgive us, I know we usually do hymns. I did not mean to go against the
law.
MOTHER ANGEL (o.S.)
The only law that you would have gone against was the law of choice.
WINGS
I don’t understand.
MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
I asked you to chose and you did, that is a power that cannot be taken
from any one. To chose allows us travel live different lives and yet we
are all trying to get to the same destination.

(looks upward)

MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
Very much, so much that I have decided that you will be the next angel in
charge of heaven.
WINGS

MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
Wings, eternity is beginning to catch up with me.
WINGS

MOTHER ANGEL (o.S.)
You mean creation.
WINGS
Yes that’s what I meant..
MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Now before I can bestow this on you, you
must do one final assignment.
,WINGS
What might that be?
mother ANGEL (O.S.)
The unplanned arrival. I want you to help him understand how important
love is for all of our Heavenly Father’s creations; wherever they may be.
WINGS
(paces- hands behind back)
Has he forgotten that it’s the power of love, which formed heaven’s
playground and the fullness of it and because of it’s power ever living
thing thrives.
moTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
He is young and has not yet been told or shown the importance of love.
His searching for love has taken him off his destined path. The only
thing he has forgotten is where to look.
WiNGS
So I must show him.
MOTHER ANGEL
Yes.
WINGS
How can I convince him, if his mind is made up?
MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
It doesn’t matter what method you use as long as it’s of good intentions.
I trust you will find a way.
Wings bows his head in silence.
MOTHER ANGEL (o.S.) (cont'd)
(Pauses) There is something else on your mind, what is it?
WINGS
I have heard that most angels that leave heaven for missions chose to not
to return until years later.
MOTHER ANGEL (o.S.)
That is true. And when they are done, the power of love leads them
upwardly here from whence they were created.
WINGS
Sometimes. . .
MOTHER ANGEL
I feel this is something that you have considered.
WINGS
I often wondered if a chance like this cross my path what would I do?
MOTHER ANGEL (o.S.)
If you decided to stay, you will make a fine addition on earth and a
great leader when you return to heaven.
WinGS
And what of Aolani?
MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
Aolani, you speak of her as if she would be your reason to stay.
WINGS
No, I speak of her because I I I. I know she is the reason I must go.
MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
Umh, I see! Of my two headstrong angels, you are the one I have chosen,
for I sense that you and this earth angel have more in common than you
know.
WINGS
When shall I leave?
MOTHER ANGEL (O.S.)
Now is all the time we have.
Wings exits through a cloudy fog. SPRING & SUMMER enter and sit on
clouds. Aolani enters, without her glasses.
SUMMER
Well I think, it’s wonderful. At least I’ll see him in the Summer.
SPRING
But not before me.
Aolani
(interrupts)
Has anyone seen, Wings?
SPRING
,Haven’t you heard?
Aolani

SPRING

SUMMER grabs SPRING’s hand.

To earth’s outlet to convince the unexpected arrival that love does exist
and (pauses) he may not come back.

travel (winks)
SPRING
Yeah, just think away from here, close to the playground and you know if
he get’s one glimpse of a female earth angel, he’s drawn to it.
SUMMER
When that happens most male angels don’t return until. . .
Spring
(interrupts)
Until you meet him at earth’s outlet.
SUMMER
(circles Aolani)
And that could be for many, many, many earth angel years.
Summer & Spring exit, leaving Aolani alone. She walks around touching the
clouds then at earth.

Love means different things to different people; It is undefined and at
its best when it is given freely without anything expected in return.
WingS
And not just on Valentine’s Day!

Easy for ya’ll to say. That’s what angels do naturally.
WINGS
True, we are angels and we do practice on a moment to moment basis, but
what makes us different from you. Nothing. You just live in a different
place. Same rule applies to all our Heavenly Father’s creations.
ORI
Wings, do you have a special angel in your life?
WINGS
Why?
ORI
Because, if you don’t, then how would you know?
WINGS
I will confess, there is this one beautiful angelic goddess, but it could
never happen.
ORI

WINGS

We all exist because of it and no matter when or where, love is there
waiting to unveil itself to the fullest, and not just on Valentine’s Day.

It’s my sister. She’s graced us with her presence and joined my wedding

(TURNS)

Ori, will you announce the commencing of the wedding and Wings could you
stand in as my best man?
WiNGS

Ori
Ladies and Gentleman, please stand as we welcome the bride. On this day,
when love reveals itself as it is in heaven so shall it be on earth.
HEARTS sprinkling love and flowers. And a mysterious Bridesmaid follows,
and finally the bride.
