Question 1: (Problem 11.147 Beer et. al)

Coal is discharged from the tailgate A of a dump truck with an
initial velocity v A  2 m/s 50 . Determine the radius of
curvature of the trajectory described by the coal (a) at Point A,
(b) at the point of the trajectory 1 m below Point A.

Question 2: (Problem 11.192 Beer et. al)

The end Point B of a boom is originally 5 m from fixed Point A

when the driver starts to retract the boom with a constant radial
acceleration of r  1.0 m/s2 and lower it with a constant
angular acceleration   0.5 rad/s2 . At t  2 s, determine
(a) the velocity of Point B, (b) the acceleration of Point B,
(c) the radius of curvature of the path.
Question 3: (Question 1.18, page 29, of Dumir et al.) A moving point at location A (at the origin) of its trajectory
y - x = (x + y)3 has speed 3m/s which is decreasing at a rate of 2m/s2. Find its acceleration at this position.

Question 4: (Question 1.14, page 31, of Dumir et. al) A small block of mass 0.5kg slides down a hill whose
elevation is approximated by y = 200 cos(𝜋x/800). Its speed at the position shown is 40m/s. Find the rate of increase
of speed in this position (See Figure below) if the coefficient of kinetic friction for the block is 0.2.
Question 5: In the design of a control mechanism, the vertical slotted guide is moving with a constant velocity 𝑥̇ =
150 mm/s during the interval of motion from x = -80 mm to x = +80 mm. For the instant when x = 60 mm, calculate
the normal and tangential components of acceleration of the pin P, which is confined to move in the parabolic slot.
From these results, determine the radius of curvature ρ of the path at this position.
