Homowork 1 CChemie6201; Fundamentals of Chemical Engineering Assignment 1 1. The schematic below shows the flow sheet for the production of ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen. The feed stream is a nitrogen and hydrogen mixture in the 1:3 ratio required of the reaction chemistry: N, +3H, > 2NH, Trace amounts of the inert gas argon (0.1 moles) occur in the feed (100 moles). In the converter, 10 percent of the nitrogen and hydrogen react to form ammonia. The ammonia product is removed by the condenser in which only ammonia Is liquefied, and the unreacted nitrogen and hydrogen, along with the argon, recycle to the converter. Without a bleed stream, argon would only enter the process and would accumulate to dominate the recycle. The bleed stream vents part of the recycle stream to prevent the buildup of argon. {f-for-the proper performance of the converter, its feed is limited to 0.5 percent argon, what (fraction of the recycle stream must be vented? The Table 1 includes all the flow rates in the process. Fill out all the flow rates in the table. @© Recycle Np, Hp and Ar | Bleed N,, Hy and Ar ‘Ammonia Converter (300 atm) Condenser 2 (0.5% Ar N28 moles sithe stream = Ar-O.1 0) NH; Fig. 1 Ammonia Production Table 1.
