The State of the Union Address

Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution:


The President of the United States “shall from time to time give to the Congress
information of the State of the Union”

This address has become an annual televised tradition, usually held on a Tuesday in mid-
January. The President addresses a joint session of Congress, the Senate and the House of
Representatives assembled in the House chamber.

Assignment
Watch or listen to the State of the Union Address and complete the following questions:
1. List the full name and position of at least five Cabinet members in attendance.
2. List the full name and position of at least five Congressional leaders in attendance.
3. List at least four Supreme Court Justices in attendance.
4. List the full name of the guests of the President in attendance.
5. Name the missing Cabinet member.
6. List and describe at least five main topics of the President’s address.
