PURPOSE OF NAVI-PLANNER CBT
Navi-Planner Сomputer Based Training (NPL CBT) is designated for officers
in charge of a navigational watch, for experienced nautical officers and other
persons with responsible duties in planning and navigation works.
The purpose of this course is to enhance safety of navigation by providing the
knowledge and skills necessary to fully utilize the features of Navi-Planner.
A trainee successfully completing this course will be able to use Navi-Plan-
ner to perform the planning tasks. They will be able to operate Navi-Planner
software, use the planning functions of Navi-Planner, select and assess all
relevant information and take proper action.
Trainees will be able to:
• operate all basic planning functions;
• operate all specific functions for advanced route planning
and voyage plan creation;
• perform data updating that is needed for the planning
and voyage in as whole.

INSTALLATION
1. Insert the TRANSAS Navi-
Planner Computer Based
Training disk in the CD-drive.
2. The autorun window opens.
3. Select the Navi-Planner CBT option.
Note: TRANSAS Navi-Planner
Computer Based Training
(CBT) is also available at:

4. The Start Menu


window opens.
5. To start the course,
select items from
the main menu.
6. To close the ECDIS
CBT window, click
the Exit button.

INTRODUCTION – describes the main Navi-Planner purposes and features,
its user interface description and provides software overview as a whole.

DISPLAY OF VECTOR AND RASTER CHARTS – details the different chart


formats aviable in Navi-Planner.

PAPER CHARTS
AND DIGITAL NTM – the course
describes the key synergies between
Navi-Planner and TGT e-Data
Service software synergy. Working
with paper charts and NTM, its
addition from the TGT e-Data
Service application and access from
Navi-Planner are covered here.

OVERLAYS – introduction of how Navi-Planner handles different types


of overlays such as mariners objects [Maps], Tides and currents, weather
displaying and its play ahead function, Admiralty Information overlay
displaying and quick access to required T&P notice.

ROUTE PLANNING – contains key information about planning the route.
The course consists of general route introduction, methods of route
creation, route loading / import and unloading / export, merging with other
available routes and route deletion. The Route Planning course describes
the basic route functions available in Navi-Planner.

VOYAGE PLANNING – details advanced route creation resulting in a
Voyage Plan. This course covers weather routing, schedule calculations,
collecting data such as charts along the route, weather, UKC and Overhead
Clearance, danger areas and reporting points, performing the Check List
and finally, printing out the Voyage Plan.

CHARTS – – introduces the Chart Administration necessary in Navi-
Planner. Administrative functions such as charts installation, obtaining the
status of all installed charts, performing online chart updates, ordering
missed charts / licenses and permits via different methods are included
here.

ANTI-PIRACY – the course


describes the main features
provided by Navi-Planner’s Anti-
Piracy overlay. Includes the display
and updating of the overlay, and
Voyage Plan extension by piracy
incidents.

TADS DATA SET REQUESTING –
relates to Chart Administration
performed using Navi-Planner. The
course describes how to request
the dataset for “new charts” when
the charts are already licensed.

AVCS DATA SET REQUESTING –


relates to Chart Administration
performed using Navi-Planner. The
course describes how to request
and receive the AVCS dataset and
save it for later installation of
charts in other brands of ECDIS.
