People of Palawan
- They are called Palawano or Palaw’an
- They traditionally hunt using soars and bamboo blowguns
- They are closely resemble to the Tagbanwa (Tagbanwa
people are one of the oldest ethnic groups in the Philippine
and can be mainly found in the central and northern
Palawan)
- Some of the Tausug residents call the Palawanos ‘Traan”
which means “people in the scattered places”
- Like the Yakan in the part of Basilan, the Palawanos liced
in the house out of sight of each other.
- Their main occupation is subsistence, farming, cultivating;
mainly in upland rice.
- Palawanos are now settled in the highlands of the island of
Palawan.
- Their religion is an old form of belief once practiced
throughout the central Phil. prior to the Spanish arrival in the
16th century; a mixed of traditional animism with elements
of Hinduism and Islamic beliefs
- Some of them have embraced Islam from their southern
Molbog and Palawani neighbors
The tribe is composed of several sub-groups.
One of this is the small community of Southwest Palawan,
living in the internal mountain they are known as the
“Taaw’t Bato” means “people of the rock”.
- They are found in the southern interior of Palawan in the
volcanic crater of Mount Matalingaan.
- They are mostly lives in caves.
- They are sudden farmers who practice multiple cropping,
they produced cassava (their main source of carbohydrates),
sugarcane, garlic, sweet potatoes, and several vegetables.
- They also do hunting year-round to compliment their
carbohydrate diet; wild pigs are caught using spring traps.
