On May 1, 1707, the Kingdom of Great Britain was created through the

political union held between the Kingdom of England, where Wales and the
Kingdom of Scotland were located. One hundred years later, the Kingdom of
Ireland, under English rule since 1961, joined the Kingdom of Great Britain
to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. This Kingdom had an
important development of Western ideas about the parliamentary system, in
addition to making important contributions to literature, the arts and
science.During the time of the Industrial Revolution, he was involved in
colonial exploitation. With the approval of the Law of Slavery, the country
was one of the first in the fight against slavery. In the nineteenth century
it was crowned as the main naval and economic power until the twentieth
century. The British Empire reached its maximum extent in 1921, when after
the First World War, the League of Nations granted it the mandate over the
former German colonies and Ottoman possessions. A year later, the British
Broadcasting Company was created, which later became the BBC, the world's
first large-scale broadcaster. More than 885,000 British soldiers lost their
lives in World War I.In 1921 the creation of the Irish Free State was carried
out; Northern Ireland chose to remain part of the United Kingdom. As a
result, in 1927 it was renamed the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
The United Kingdom was one of the three main allies of World War II. After the defeat of its
European allies in the first year of the war, the British army continued the fight against
Germany in an air campaign known as the battle of England. After the victory, the country was
one of the three great powers that gathered to plan the postwar world. World War II left the
national economy damaged. However, thanks to the help of the Marshall plan and the
expensive loans obtained from the United States and Canada, the nation began the road to
recovery.
The immediate post-war years saw the establishment of the welfare state, including one of the
first and largest public health services in the world. Changes in government policy also
attracted people from all over the Commonwealth, creating a multicultural state. Although the
new limits of the British political role were confirmed by the Suez Crisis of 1956, the
international spread of the English language meant the permanent influence of its literature
and culture, while since the 1960s, its popular culture also began to have great influence
abroad.

The United Kingdom was one of the twelve founding members of the European
Union at its inception in 1992 with the signing of the Maastricht Treaty.
Previously, since 1973 he had been a member of the precursor of the European
Union, the European Economic Community (EEC). The current conservative
government is in favor of reducing the powers and powers of several
government agencies, by transferring them to the European Union, while the
opposition, the Labor Party, has mixed attitudes about it.

The end of the 20th century saw major changes in the British government, with the
establishment of the decentralized administrations conferred for Northern Ireland, Scotland
and Wales. Recently Scotland decided in referendum to remain in England.
