Jumbo SideKick INSTRUCTIONS, EFFECT: On stage is a simple center stand table. The top is draped in black velvet with the standard sold fringe. On the table rests a jumbo deck of cards and a Single rose in a bud vase. A jumbo card is selected by the spectator, returned to the deck and the deck replaced in its case, standing up. Spectator is handed a blank pistol and positioned some distance from the table, with the admonition to aim at the upright deck of cards. "Aim carefully, fire, and you will find that the bullet has penetrated the deck of cards, stopping just short of the card you selected." The spectator fires -- "BANG" -~ and the drape falls off the table. "I'm not sure you understand the goal of this experiment,” says the performer. "You must aim a bit higher." Performer-turned-instructor assists the spectator in assuming the proper stance. Spectatur-Lires-uyprin ~~ BANG’ flies out of the bud vase. Performer simply stares at the sky (or the stage if you wish) until the laughter dies down. “Listen, Dead-Bye, let's try and get through this experiment while I still have any equipment jeft.” Spectator tries again -- "BANG" -- and the entire tabletop tips forvard, spilling cards, bud vase and what renains of the performers dignity. However plastered to the tabletop is a jumbo card - the five of clubs. A sly smile creeps across the performer's visage. " I take it you selected the five of clubs." Puzzled, the spectator responds: " No, actually I selected the four of clubs." Performer hestitates for only a moment: “Give me that gun,” he says. Pointing the gun at the card, performer squeezes off a single shot - AND SHOOTS OFF THE CENTER PIP OF THE CARD. METHOD: Built into the table top are a series of sound switches which actuate mechanical devices that cause the various shooting effects. How these devices are used and set up are explained in the proceedure belov. re is a sound adjusting switch underneath the back edge of the table top. aoa switch is turned clockwise to the vight it will set the electronics in 7 the table function for a sharp ck Close hand clap. Turning this switch counter~ 0 left sets the electronics i Clogkvise to the left, se ronics to be actuated by the load firing of When learning to operate this pro p or when rehearsing, ing switch to the right for "hand clap" operation (no need’t scare the neighbors). When performing on stage make certain to the left for “gun firing”. You do not want to be caught the "hand clap" position because applause will set the table set the sound adjust- ‘0 waste blanks or to set this switch with the switch in in operation. PAGE TWO - JUMBO SIDEKICK CAUTIONS: This is a precision piece of apparatus and should not be treated like a toy. The instructions below outline precisely the care, maintenance and proper set up of this apparatus. Do not deviate from these instructions or you may Jeopordize your performances of this effect on stage. Use only high quality alkaline batteries. Old batteries will fail you on stage. A new set of batteries should last for about 25 performances. At the end of each performance the batteries must be removed to prolong the battery life. DO NOT use rechargable batteries. SETTING UP THE TABLE: (See Figure One) 1, Place the table top upside down on a clean surface. 2. Screw part B (center post) into the table flange. Use 3. Screw part C into part B, using unmarked end. Screw " 4. Screw parts D (legs) into the brass coupling. 5. Stand the table upright. marked "T". into brass coupling. SETTING UP THE Pir (See Figure Two): ~ 1. Attach. the 2-ninewolt batteries to the battery clips at_the back of the table and push the batteries head first into the battery chanber . 2, At the bottom of the bud vase protudes a tube. Set this tube into the hole at the left center in the table top. 3, Insert the flower stem into the tube within the bud vase, pushing down to depress the plunger (see FIGURE THREE) all the way down. A looped wire will now protrude from the bottom of the vase. With your other hand reach under the table and slide the “retracting rod" button forvard to move the retracting rod inside the table out of the way of the wire Joop at the botton of the vase. Make certain the wire loop is now depressed to its lowest position and release the spring-loaded retracting rod button, The retracting rod should now enter the looped wire holding slunger down. the “Ente oa the routine the retracting cod will be eiete ‘ actuated to withdraw from the wire loop and the flower will be propelle —.. i bs. This is necessary for t pping of the table top. 6, HaPrDS the table drape around the table starting first ot the table, " dempe ore Place the Brome ove cn around pressing it onto the velcro toward tne tteound the back. DO NOT put a pulling strain on the table JUMBO SIDEKICK - PAGE THREE drape hook when positioning the drape around the table. Too much pull. will prevent the hook from later retracting and the drape will not fall off. 1, ‘The deck of jumbo cards provided is a POP-EYED POPPER force deck. ‘Twenty six pairs of cards have been "roughed" so that each pair will stick together. The top card of each pair is a four of clubs. The cards can be shown all different and the spectator is then asked to touch the back of any card in the deck. When he does cut the deck at that point and carefully lift the top card (four of clubs) off of its' roughed mate and show it to the audience. Replace the four of clubs back on top of its! mate and shuffle the deck. 2, Place the deck into the card case and stand the case upright on the card stand with the target side facing the audience. Remember the card stand and deck must be lined up right at the front edge of the table or the table later will not tip. Most importantly you must now “arm” the electronic devices. While placing the deck in the stand, with the other hand depress the “ready switch” button and the ready light will yo on indicating all is ready. After the first shot this light will go out. 3. Go into the audience with your blank gun and select a member to be the shooter. Now proceed as outlined in the EFFECT on Page One. SEQUENCE OF EVENTS: 1. When gun is first fired the drape will fall off the table. 2. When next fired (make certain there is a least 5 seconds between firings) the second sound switch will activate shooting the flower into the air. 3. The next shot will tip the table top over, revealing the “chosen” card, Make certain not to bend the Flange Release (see FIGURE ONE) when packing your table top in your travel cases. The least amount of bend could make this event not work. + When the audience reminds you that the five of clubs is not the chosen card, reach for the gun, aim at the card and fire. the last sound switch will retract the magnet and release the center pip. ‘ieee IMPORTANT #0" IMPORTANT *t TMPORTANT «eR The spectator doing the shooting must not stand further than 10 to 12 feet from the table or the sound microphone will not adequately pick up the sound waves from the gun. If for any reason the drape does not fall when the first shot is fired, simply say that the shooter is a bad shot and have them move closer to the table. In certain halls if there are a lot of stage drapes and heavy carpeting on the floor, the sound waves will be absorbed and may not be sharp enough to trigger the mechanism, Also if you are working outdoors vhere there is no ceiling from which the sound waves can bounce, the spectator oe be within 12 feet of the table or the mechanism will not work. PAGE FOUR - JUMBO SIDEKICK FINAL WORDS: Remember the internals in the table top are a precision electronic- mechanical series of devices. Do not drop this table top or expose it to extrenes of temperature (below 32° or above 150° F ) or humidity. A great anount of engineering went into the design of this prop. We have done our part ++enow you do yours. Have many wonderful performances.
