Fuel tanks
⎯ On the A319/320 fuel is stored in wing tanks with an inner and outer cell, connected by electric transfer valves

Green System
⎯ Pressurized by engine 1 or PTU
• Engine fire shutoff valve isolates pump from reservoir
Yellow System

• Hand pump for cargo doors will pressurize the yellow system to operate doors
• Electric pump is operated by the YELLOW ELEC PUMP pb
• Engine fire shutoff valve isolates pump from reservoir
Blue System
⎯ Blue system is pressurized by the blue electric pump or the RAT
⎯ System shares components with the other systems and powers the emergency generator
⎯ With BLUE ELEC PUMP pb in AUTO, the pump operates with AC power available and either engine running
• In-flight the pump operates continuously unless switched off
• On the ground the BLUE PUMP OVRD pb on the maintenance panel will pressurize the system
⎯ Pressing the EMER ELEC PWR MAN ON pb has the same effect as a loss of AC bus 1 & 2
⎯ RAT MAN ON pb is used to deploy the RAT manually for hydraulic pressure only

Emergency Extension
⎯ Accomplished by gravity
⎯ Turning hand crank clockwise shuts off hydraulic pressure to the gear, opens the doors and unlocks the gear
⎯ Main gear are locked down by means of locking springs and the nose gear is downlocked by aerodynamic
forces
⎯ Gear doors remain open and nosewheel steering is deactivated
Brakes
⎯ Brake and Steering Control Unit (BSCU) controls all normal braking functions – anti-skid, autobrakes and
brake temperature indications
Normal Brakes
⎯ Normally powered by the green system
⎯ Available with the parking brake is off (A319/320), A/SKID & N/W STRG switch ON and green pressure
available
CAUTION
If a BSCU reset is performed in flight, a switch to alternate braking without antiskid may occur at
touchdown accompanied by an ECAM message informing the crew of the switch to alternate braking
without antiskid
Antiskid System
⎯ Automatically deactivated at 20 knots
⎯ May or may not be available with alternate brakes
Autobrake System
⎯ Requires:
• Green hydraulic pressure
• Antiskid electrical power
• No failures exist in the brake system
• At least one ADIRU is functioning
• At least two SECs must be operative
⎯ Activated when ground spoilers extend
• During a rejected takeoff below 72 knots the autobrakes will not activate since the ground spoilers do not
extend
© 2003 LR Publications FOR TRAINING ONLY 49
⎯ Disarmed when
• AUTO/BRK pb is deselected
• One or more arming conditions is lost
• Ground spoilers are retracted
• 10 seconds after lift off
• Pressure is applied to at least one brake pedal
⎯ Not available with alternate brakes
Alternate Brakes
⎯ If green hydraulic pressure is insufficient, the yellow hydraulic system is automatically selected to provide
alternate brakes
⎯ Alternate brakes without antiskid are provided:
• With electrical power failure
• With BSCU failure
• If the A/SKID & N/W STRG switch is selected OFF
• If the brakes are supplied by yellow accumulator pressure only
⎯ Accumulator can provide at least seven full bake applications
CAUTION
If a BSCU reset is performed in flight, a switch to alternate braking without antiskid may occur at
touchdown accompanied by an ECAM message informing the crew of the switch to alternate braking
without antiskid.
Parking Brake
⎯ When the parking brake is on:
• All other braking modes and antiskid are deactivated
• Yellow hydraulic system or accumulators supply brake pressure
• Triple indicator indicates brake pressure
⎯ Accumulators can be pressurized by activating the YELLOW ELEC PUMP pb
• Accumulators will maintain adequate parking brake pressure for at least 12 hours

REF CONTROL INDICATION DESCRIPTION
The start valve opens if the MAN START pb is ON. Ignition does

not fire.
This turns on continuous ignition (A and B) when the engine is
running and;
• FLEX or TOGA thrust selected on the ground
NORM • TO/GA thrust is selected in flight
• The engine anti-ice pb is ON, or
• Engine surge or stall occurs in flight, or
• FLAPS lever position is other than “0” in flight.
If the MASTER switch is ON and N2 ≥ idle, this position selects
1 ENG MODE continuous ignition (A and B).
• During an automatic start:
o On the ground, when N1 passes 16%, ignition
switches to A or B. However, if there is an
ignition delay during the start sequence, ignition
IGN START
is continuous (A and B).
o In flight, continuous ignition (A and R) begins
when the start sequence begins.
• During a manual start, ignition commences when the
MASTER switch is placed ON.
Both pack valves close automatically during the start sequence.
LP fuel valve opens (if the ENG FIRE pb is in).
• During an automatic start, the HP fuel valve opens if:
o The ENG MODE selector is at IGN/START
o N2 is above the following threshold:
ON 22% On the ground.
ENG MASTER 15% in flight.
2
1(2) • During a manual start, the HP fuel valve opens if:
o The ENG MODE selector is at IGN/START
o The MAN START pb is ON.
Close signals go directly to the HP fuel valve and the LP fuel
OFF valve. These signals cause both channels of the FADEC to be
reset.
Illuminates and caution on ECAM appears on ECAM if there is:
1. An automatic start abort.

FLAP LEVER
DESCRIPTION
The FLAP lever selects simultaneous operation of the slats and flaps. Before selecting any position, the lever
must be pulled out of the detent. Balks at position 1 and 3 prevent calling for excessive flap/slat travel with a
single action. An intermediate lever position cannot be selected.

NOTES
⎯ Two flaps and five slats on each wing. When the flaps are extended the ailerons droop approximately 5°
⎯ Slats are powered by both the green and blue hydraulic system
⎯ Flaps are powered by both the green and yellow hydraulic systems
⎯ If one hydraulic system fails, the associated surfaces extend and retract at half speed
⎯ If one SFCC fails, all flaps and slats operate at half speed
⎯ Four Wingtip Brakes (WTB) are activated in the case of:
Asymmetry
Overspeed
Symmetrical runaway
Uncommanded movement
• The WTBs lock flap or slat surfaces and cannot only be released on the ground
• If flap WTBs are on the slats still operate, and if the slat WTBs are on the flaps still operate
⎯ A flap disconnect detection system stops flap movement if excessive differential movement is detected
between the inner and outer flaps on the same wing
⎯ “Alpha lock” function inhibits retracting the slats from position 1 to 0 at a high AOA or low airspeed
Configurations
⎯ Takeoff configuration 1: 1+F is selected. Flaps automatically retract at 210 knots
⎯ Takeoff or go-around in configuration 2 or 3: When configuration 1 is selected, config 1+F is provided if the
airspeed is under 210 knots. Flaps automatically retract at 210 knots
⎯ Configuration 0 to configuration 1 in flight: Configuration 1 is selected

configuration 2,3 or full have been previously selected
