Safety and Security rules at School

1. I would like to assure all the parents and guardians with regard to the aspects
of safety and security measures that have been adopted in GSIS, so as to put to
rest any apprehensions that you may have pertaining to the wellbeing of your
ward while at school.

2. Good Shepherd International School is located at Ootacamund and functions


from two campuses i. e The Palada Campus (Grade VII to XII) and The Fernhill
Campus (Grade I to VI).

3. The following are the safety and security measures adopted which are common
to both the campuses and in practice since many years. These aspects are
periodically reviewed to make them as foolproof as possible.

a) The whole campus is secured by a perimeter wall / fencing with restricted


entry and exit gates which are manned 24 /7 by trained security personnel.

b) The school employs G4 security services (one of the best in the country) and
has 76 security personnel which include 6 supervisors who are deployed in and
around the campus. These security staff are trained and adequately
familiarized with all the safety and security instruction of the school.

c) The school follows a set standard operating procedure which is available as a


booklet and all teaching and non-teaching faculty as well as the students are
frequently familiarized with these instructions.

d) There are over 450 surveillance cameras deployed all over the campus and all
class rooms, playground roads / tracks and perimeter walls are adequately
covered by the cameras. There are security staff detailed to monitor these
cameras round the clock and the recordings are stored as per the schools
standard operating procedures to be retrieved / viewed in case so required.

e) Sessions to familiarize students of all ages and gender with the concept of good
and bad touch are held regularly by the counsellors.

f) The members of staff are adequately familiarized with and warned on the
consequences of misbehavior with the children.

g) Safety and evacuation plans are displayed in each class rooms / living
accommodation and all prominent places where required.
h) Safety and evacuation drills and lockdown drills are practiced regularly both
during day and by night under the supervision of trained staff who are
outsourced for this purpose and records maintained.

i) Vehicle parking are away from students moving areas and adequate safety
boards are displayed with speed breakers in places where vehicles are
permitted to move inside the campus.

j) Fire safety precautions are in place and regular firefighting drills are practiced
by the staff / students with the assistance of the security guards and trained
supervisors. Firefighting equipment is placed in all places as per safety
requirements.

k) All the lifts on the campus are periodically serviced and well maintained to
avoid any accidents.

l) All the staff employed in school has police verification done and all employees
are in possession of identity cards and Aadhaar Cards.

m) Adequate security measures have been setup to ensure safety of students in


various labs.

n) There are x-ray scanning equipment’s placed at the main entrance and all
vehicles and persons are checked prior to entry into school.

VI. Safety guides separately for physics, chemistry, biology and
design technology labs.
VII. Directives and guidelines for the parents and students.
VIII. Directives and guidelines for members of staff.

p) Safety committee meetings are held fortnightly to ascertain the safety aspects
of the school

q) Being a fully residential school, adequate safety measures are taken to ensure
the health, hygiene and safety of food which is ensured through regular food
committee meetings.
r) The school has two well qualified Resident Medical Officers. The Hospital
caters to the Medical needs of the entire School community. In addition to the
Medical facilities, two well-equipped ambulances are stationed in the school
premises. A fire engine is also an integral part for the safety of the school in
case of fire emergencies. The hospital organizes vaccination programmes and
other medical amenities such as Eye camp, regular Dental care etc. During off-
site activities the authorized staff carries first aid kit. The authorized staff are
certified first –aiders.

s) Lastly, each student in school is assigned an individual tutor who personally


monitors the wellbeing of the students entrusted in his / her care.
