Jesus’ Call to be

Vigilant and
Faithful Servant
Luke 12: 32-48
KFC Monthly Assembly
August- Cycle C
In one of Jesus’ teachings He said to His
disciples that they should never be afraid if
they lack money and materials things. Instead,
they must save for treasures in heaven where
no thief can steal it.
Jesus also told the disciples to be
like servants who wait for their
master to come.
When the master comes and knocks, the servants will open the
door for him immediately. How happy will be the master when he
finds them awake and ready when he returns.
And in the same way, we must be ready
too, because God will come at a time
when we do not expect Him.
Then Peter said, “Lord is this
for us or for everyone?”
Jesus answered, “Who is the
faithful and wise servant?
He is the one that his master will put in charge, to run the
household and give the other servants their share of the
food at the proper time.
“How happy that master be if he finds his servant doing
this when he comes home! Indeed, I tell you, the master will
put that servant in charge of all his property.
“But if that servant
thinks that his master
will not come back yet
and begins to beat the
other servants and just
eat and get drunk. Then
the master will come
back one day and see his
servant’s doing, the
master will punish him.
“The servant who
knows the master’s
will but didn’t do it will
be punished strictly
but the servant who
didn’t do his master’s
will because he does
not know it will receive
a light punishment.
And then Jesus added, “Much is required
from the person to whom much is given;
and still more is required from the person
to whom much more is given.”
FEATURED SAINT
Saint John Mary Vianney
Feast Day: August 4
St. John Mary Vianney was
born in France. As a child, he
loved to pray to the point that
when he was 18 years
old, he asked his father if he
could become a priest.
His father supported his plan to be a
priest. But while St. John Vianney
studied in the seminary he was
having difficulty studying Latin.
Because of his struggle he decided
to go on a pilgrimage to the shrine
of St. John Francis Regis and
offered his studies and asked his
help.
After the pilgrimage, he
still found his lesson
difficult but now he is
motivated to study
harder.
St. John Mary Vianney became a
priest and was assigned in the
little parish called Ars. The
people in the parish were not
good: they drank too much, used
bad language and never went to
Church. He fasted, prayed and
did hard penance to God so He
may save the people.
With his persistence in prayer
and sacrifice, slowly the people
were changed and started to go
to Church. God gave him the gift
to see into people’s minds and to
know the future, because of this
gift he converted many sinners
and helped people.
St. John Mary
Vianney is the patron
saint of priests.
