For this particular word art image, I went in with the idea of “What is Algebra?”. This would be a great introductory activity for students to flip through their textbooks and use words/terms they find that exhibit what algebra is, or what they think it is. Once students create these images, we could print them and hang them around the classroom so the students can recognize words that they were questioning at the start of algebra and see what they now understand. Similarly, this could be used at the beginning of different units that are vocabulary heavy in mathematics, such as slope and graphing. An example using a variety of formulas is included to the right, as in mathematics sometimes the most important thing is to be able to identify a particular formula.
