Partner Facing FAQ

Twitter In-Stream Video Sponsorship

What is counted as a Video View?

Advertisers that promote their Video content through Pre-Roll objectives will only pay
when a user begins to watch a video that has been promoted, for either 3 seconds/100%
view or for 2 seconds/50% view depending on what the advertiser selects (or if the user
interacts with the video -- clicks/taps/etc)

In ads.twitter.com, we define a “view” as a dwell on the video for 2 seconds in 50% view
(the default option), or 3 seconds in 100% view, or an action on the video itself
(click/tap/etc.). The advertiser has the option to choose one of these viewability options
when creating or modifying a campaign.

We will never bill an advertiser for a second (or third) view from the same user, nor will
earned media count as billable engagements.

How do we define 100% and 50% in view?

It’s simply that either 50% or 100% of the video is in clear view in the timeline on the user’s
device. This refers to the actual thumbnail / video player, not the entire Tweet.

How are completions counted?

A completion is counted when user makes it to the last frame, regardless of % in view.
How do I upload an advertiser pre roll video?

Partner can upload content via the Media Studio linked directly from their ads dashboard:
Media can be uploaded by clicking the "Media" under the Creatives drop down in the ads
dash - Click the “Upload Media” button on the Library tab of the Media Studio tool.

What are the creative specification requirements for advertiser pre roll?

● Videos 6 seconds or less are non-skippable

● Creative longer than 6 seconds will launch with a countdown of 5 seconds to skip at the
5 second point
● Desktop videos > 6 seconds are immediately skippable.
● Videos can technically be up to 30 seconds, and even longer -- but we would strongly
recommend you move your client away from this strategy towards 6” content
● File Type: MP4 or MOV
● File Size: No limit, but recommended under 1GB
● Video Codec Recommendation: h264, baseline, main or high profile with a 4:2:0 color
space.
● Frame Rate Recommendation: 29.97fps or 30fps. Higher is acceptable. If the available
video has a lower frame rate don't try to "upsample" it.
● Video Bitrate Recommendation: 6,000k - 10,000k (recommended 6,000k) for 1080p.
5,000k - 8,000k (recommended 5,000k) for 720p.
● Audio Codec Recommendation: AAC LC (Low complexity)

How do I target my campaigns?

Simply upload your creative via ads.twitter.com and select the “Video pre-roll” objective.
Twitter will then dynamically serve your ads against the content for the users you have
targeted.

What is the ad experience?

The ad will play before the content starts and just like promoted video, the ad will autoplay in
users’ timelines on mute.
If the user clicks or taps the video, the ad will expand to fullscreen with sound for the
remainder of the ad.
