METHODOLOGY

This section includes the research design, research locale, subjects/population of

the study, research instruments, the data gathering procedure and the statistical tools for

the analysis of data gathered.

Research Design

For the purpose of this study, a descriptive method of research will be used. This

will be used to describe and assess the mathematical word problem solving skills of grade

6 pupils of Kapangian Elementary School.

To determine the level of skill in terms of Mathematical word problem solving of

the respondents, this study will use tests to quantify and record pupil performance in

solving word problems.

Research Locale

The venue of this study will be located at the Kapangian Elementary School, whose

grade 6 pupils are the respondents of this study. The school is situated in Salazar St.,

Downtown Tacloban City.

Research Instrument

The research instrument utilized in this study to assess respondents’ performance

in solving mathematical word problems will be a Math Word Problem Test consisting of

10 items, with problems specifically designed for 6th graders.

Research Respondents

The respondents of this study are the selected grade 6 pupils of Kapangian

Elementary School, Tacloban City. Respondents are certified enrolled pupils of said

school and are duly recognized as learners of said grade level.

A total number of 30 Grade 6 respondents will be randomly chosen from among

all the identified grade 6 pupils of Kapangian Elementary School.

Data Gathering Procedure

Before the distribution of survey questionnaire, the researcher will secure an

endorsement letter from their adviser and seek permission from the Principal of the

school, where the respondents will be taken; for their approval to conduct the study in

Kapangian Elementary School.

Then questionnaires will be distributed to the target respondents and the

researchers will personally retrieve the said questionnaires. After the data is collected, it

will then be tabulated, presented and then analyzed using the different statistical tools

mentioned below.

Statistical Treatment of Data

To determine the level of skills in solving mathematical word problems of Grade 6

pupils in Kapangian ES, the weighted mean will be computed.
