to me

Hello sir
These are the write-ups for the InterCon

I'm Shobha Banashankari from Belagavi, Karnataka. I've done my M.A. in ancient
Indian History. I'm presently serving as the secretary of Indian arts women's trust(R)
and as the chairman of Sgmhri Anjaneya multipurpose co-operative society. I have a
lot of interest in the Indian culture and heritage. I have attended a national
convention in AIT-Chikkamangaluru and the international conventions in IIT Bombay
and IIT Madras with my daughter. I too got the wonderful opportunity to learn the
beautiful art forms-Bandhani, wood carving and Kalamkari. I want to attend this SPIC
MACAY InterCon going to be held in JNU, Delhi to explore and learn the amazing
new things. And I take it as a proud privilege to be a part of this convention.

Abdul Gafur Khatri (Rogan art)
Abdul Gafur Khatri is a Rogan artist from Kutch district, Gujarat, India.
Khatri was born in a family of Rogan artists from Nirona village in Kutch. It was the
last family of Rogan artists. In the 1980s, Khatri left Nirona and moved to
Ahmedabad and then Mumbai for employment. Two years later, he returned and
learned the art from his father and grandfather. Rogan painting saw a resurgence
due to his efforts. In addition, Khatri and his family began training girls in the art
which had previously been practised only by males. Four of his ten Rogan-practicing
family members have been awarded with national or state awards. In 2014, Indian
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the U.S. White House, and gave President
Obama two rogan paintings, including a tree of life, which were painted by Khatri.
Khatri was awarded the State Award in 1988 and the National Award in 1997. He
was also awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civillian award by the
Government of India, in 2019.
Art form:
Rogan printing, or rogan painting, is an art of cloth printing practiced in the Kutch
District of Gujarat. In this craft, paint made from boiled oil and vegetable dyes is laid
down on fabric using either a metal block (printing) or a stylus (painting). The craft
nearly died out in the late 20th century, with rogan painting being practiced by only
one family.
The word rogan comes from Persian, meaning varnish or oil. The process of
applying this oil-based paint to fabric began among the Khatris, a Muslim community
who came to India from Sindh, Pakistan. Although the name, rogan (and some of the
traditional designs) suggests an origin in Iran, there are no reliable historic records to
prove this.

Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar was born on 22nd April 1968 in New Delhi. He is an
Indian classical singer of the dhrupad genre. He was awarded the Padma Shri in

He is the nephew of Ustad N. Zahiruddin Dagar and son of Ustad N. Faiyazuddin

Faiyazuddin Dagar and his grand uncle Ustad Rahimuddin Khan Dagar, a dhrupad
exponent and his grandfather's younger brother.
Wasifuddin Dagar's public career began on 25 February 1989, only a few days after
his father's death, when he gave his first performance. He sang with Ustad
Zahiruddin Dagar. Wasifuddin's first major recording were in Switzerland, India and
Japan, in 1992. He has since recorded in Switzerland, India, and America with major
recording labels. A French television company made a film based on their life and
music.
Wasifuddin Dagar has toured North America performing dhrupad solo since 2000.
He first performed live in New York in 2000, where he gave a rendition of Raga
