Patanjali was founded by Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna in the year 2006.
Patanjali's consumer goods business, which is the backbone of Patanjali's overall empire, saw a
decline of over 10 per cent in revenue at Rs 8,148 crore in FY18 as compared to FY17. Its profit
saw over 50 per cent decline in FY18 at Rs 528.9 crore compared to the preceding year,
Bloombergquint reported.
Patanjali's fast-moving consumer goods sales accounted for Rs 9,019.3 crore in FY17, which is
more than double of FY16 (Rs 4,383 crore). The company's profit after tax was Rs 1,190.4 crore
in FY17, and Rs 772.6 crore a year earlier.
Being present in different products segments and having 4 different sub-brands has helped the
company in having a high share of wallet of the customers. Distribution is one of the critical
instruments in the success of the FMCG players in a country like India and Patanjali through its
own retail outlets and partnered channel of distribution has made the products available to its
customers in most of the locations in India.
In the FMCG market, it competes with players such as HUL, Dabur, Godrej, Reckitt Benckiser,
P & G and many others.
Ayurved the fastest growing FMCG company in India are: a) Use of Natural Ingredients and
Ayurved and b) Pricing. Pricing plays an extremely important role in putting Patanjali Ayurved
ahead of its fierce competitors. Hindustan Uniliver and P&G are trying their level best to cope up
with the competition but the love for Indian product growing in people is not helping them.
Patanjali has a manufacturing unit in Nepal, working under the brand name of Nepal
Gramudhyog. India’s fastest growing FMCG company is valued at 3000 Crore and generated a
revenue of 5000 Crore for the fiscal year of 2015-16.
Hindustan Uniliver and Dabur are the FMCG companies, whose market share has been
potentially affected by Patanjali. Dabur and Hindustan Uniliver are on back foot and trying to
lure customers back by providing huge discounts and impressive offers.
