Snapchat’s Attempt to Recovery

Snapchat is a social media app with over 300 million active monthly users. In February of

2018, the app released a new update that caused millions of users to delete the app. Very popular

social media influencer, Kylie Jenner, has made her way to Twitter to say, “Sooo does anyone

else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me... ugh this is so sad.” Her 25 million followers

on this app took her side and the stock lost roughly around $1.3 billion. Snapchat has allowed

controversial ads that deeply affected a well known singer under the name of Rihanna. After she

took this to Instagram to share her point of view, even more users have decided to delete this

app. Between the update that two months later people still don’t seem to understand, the

controversial ads and multiple celebrities bashing them, they are trying to dig themselves out of

the hole they made.

Snapchat has been ignoring the 1.25 million signatures of Change.org, users encouraging

them to go back to the old update, yet is now beginning to add features onto their social media

app. People have been asking for group chat video calls and mentions to tag friends in their

snapchats, and that is what they are providing. Though many users are complaining, snapchat

and other social media apps are so addicting that people can’t give it up. As much as we want to

rebel and prove a point to snapchat, we have become so dependent on the app as a way of

communication that it will continue to be popular.
