Chapter Director’s Article Continued from Page 1
If anyone has any ideas of a good place to ride please feel free to express your ideas.
We find ourselves in a rather strange dilemma as most of our members no longer have bikes or are in good health
enough to ride. I know that not being able to ride is not a good feeling as I have experienced this for myself. Rest assured
that you don't have to quit or not participate in Chapter E as you can tag along in your vehicle or provide moral support by
attending meetings, membership drives or suggest places, events and more for the Chapter. We need your knowledge
and suggestions. Help get others especially they youngsters who only want to ride in town to join in our fun. Remember
you are part of our family and we need and appreciate you.
GroupWorks
GroupWorks is a new communication system being shared by all GWRRA members. We are talking nationwide.
Chapters as well as districts will have calendars. You, the member will be able to keep up with what is going on in not just
your area but throughout the entire state. Chapters will be able to email other chapters will very little effort. Districts will
be able to send out messages to not just their district members but to other district as well. Most chapters are aware of
how this system works, but it will take 90 or so days to get it going.
There is a lot of stuff going on , you just have to participate. Thanks a lot, ride safe and have fun.

Hi Everyone,
I recently mad a trip to Missouri to visit my Aunt in the White Plains area actually closer to Dora and
Twin Bridges.
While in the area I enjoyed many good motorcycle roads that curved and ran up and down at the same
time. Lots of fun to be had and the weather was very cooperative. In addition to the roads I stumbled
upon a semi well-kept secret in the Twin Bridges area.
For those of us who do more than eat to ride and ride to eat there is a wonderful place to go river
rafting, canoeing and more. Yes, there is a live band and karaoke for those of us brave enough to sing.
(Not me I assure you!) This is also in the Mark Twain national forest so the wild life is abundant, be
careful as deer cross the road during day and night times. Yes, occasionally there is a bear. I highly
recommend this area.
Twin Bridges Canoe & Campgrounds will be hosting their annual Bike Rally on September 26-28th of 2019
with a poker ride for charity. Hope to see you there!
There is a country store and a Restaurant available. The restaurant is where the band plays and the
Karaoke singers hang out.
They have 5 new cabins! $132 per night, up to 5 people. Call for details!
One and two room cabins, sleeping 2-4 people. Two and three bedroom trailer cabins,
sleeping 9-12 people.
2 BR and 3 BR units: kitchen, living room, restroom, shower, AC, heat. Linens not included.
3 BR units have a 5 person, 2 night minimum and 2 BR units have a 5 person / 2-night minimum
during weekends. Missouri sales tax applies. NON-SMOKING.
Cabins
2 person and 4 person units (1 double bed or 2 double bed units): Kitchenette, sitting
area, restroom, shower, AC, heat. Linens not included. 2 night minimum during weekends.
Missouri sales tax applies. NON-SMOKING.
If you have a large group call us at 417-256-7507 to make meal arrangements. We can provide
catering for parties, weddings, reunions and most group events. Sack lunches available with
advance notice. Eat on our deck out back!

If you must bring your pet into one of our cabins an automatic charge of $30 per pet will apply.
Rainy Weather Policy
In the event of heavy rains or high water, at Twin Bridges, rain checks will be issued at 12
noon on the day you are scheduled to canoe: heavy rains and high water conditions affecting
other areas (ie., St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, etc.) typically do not affect our area. These
rain checks may be used in the year they are issued.
• All river activities are considered “at risk” sports – some dangers may exist. There are no
lifeguards or safety personnel on the river at any time or any place – you are responsible
for your safety – be aware of your surroundings at all times – flotation devices are
available and will not prevent drowning.
• You should be aware that obstructions exist in and around the river. Our maps, pointers
and briefings may not be complete due to the constant changes that occur on the river
everyday. We can only help you be aware of possible dangers and it is your responsibility
to know your limits and say within them.
• We encourage common sense, communication, flexibility, and appropriate reasoning.
These factors diminish as alcohol and illegal drugs are consumed. Stay sober! Obnoxious
behavior will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave the premises.
• Float plans cannot be changed after you leave the store. It is your responsibility to know
your take out and pick up times. Do not go past your pick up point as further charges will
occur. No cash refunds from purchases from the store.
• The river is not your mother, it will not pick up after you. All trash must be secure in
trash bags given to you. You will be fined by the Missouri Department of Conservation
for any Styrofoam or glass In your possession or trash that is not secure while on or
around the river.
• By renting our equipment, you agree to return property in good condition at the
expiration of the rental period. You will be responsible for any damages that occur during
your possession. If lost, stolen, or damaged beyond normal wear and tear – you will be
charged the full value of the equipment.
• Twin Bridges Canoe & Campground Inc. is not to be held responsible for any risks of
harm, damage, injury (known or unknown, foreseeable or unforeseeable, non-use or
misuse) of facilities and/or equipment offered or provided for our customers.
• Missouri law requires all children under the age of 12 to wear U.S. Coast Guard approved
life jacket at all times while in water anywhere on the river – any child found not wearing
a life jacket will be told to get out of the water.
• No underage drinking will be tolerated – law enforcement will be involved. Quiet time is
11pm – 7am and is strictly enforced – be considerate of your neighbors – any obnoxious
behavior is not tolerated at any time.
• Shoes are to be worn at all times to prevent injury.
• No illegal drugs of any kind – you will be asked to leave.
• No alcohol consumption allowed in or around the buses, store or loading/unloading
zones.
• No inappropriate language or behavior – we are a family oriented business and encourage
clean humor and fun.
• Do not litter – trash cans are provided – trash runs are daily by staff.
• If you are told to leave our facility, refund will not be given.
• No cans or bottles allowed in fire rings as they do not burn and can cause harm to others
– place these items in trash cans provided.
• Children are never to be left unattended at any time.
• No aggressive pets allowed – you are responsible if your pet attacks a child, adult or
another pet – all pets are required to be on a leash and in your possession at all times –
damage or injuries sustained by your pet will be reported to authorities – current vaccines
are required – barking dogs not tolerated.
• The river has dangers – know your limits – there are poisonous snakes and other dangers
present – never swim alone or leave children unattended – flotation devices are available
in the store.
• Check-in time is 3 pm. Check-out time is 11 am.
• All rooms and cabins are all non-smoking – dispose of your cigarettes in appropriate
containers – not on the ground.
Please note: our friends of the Missouri Highway Patrol, Douglas and Howell County Sheriff Departments
and the Missouri Department of Conservation have the right to search the premises at any time.

Hello Louisiana
The next few months we will be posting information from the Officers Hand Book of GWRRA. This will
help all members better understand what we do for you. This may inspirer one of our members to
become an Officer or other position in GWRRA. Remember, the more you participate, the more fun you
will have. All information will come directly from the GWRRA Officers Handbook.
Riding south from Calgary to the States, we were passed by a group of 6 Canadian Gold Wings. They were
riding in a tight, staggered formation, spoke to us briefly on the CB, merged back into the right lane in front
of us much like synchronized swimmers. It was a beautiful sight. How come they looked so good and we
didn’t? Well, they were all on their home turf, probably had not ridden 4000 miles, they were all two wheel-
ers and they did not have trailers. I asked myself, “How can we look like that?” The answer, we can’t. We
were all trikes each with a loaded trailer. The Team Riding Manual says that we are to ride 1 second behind
the bike immediately in front of us, if staggered, and 2 seconds behind the bike in our lane. So, I asked my-
self, “Are trikes really staggered?” A trike always takes 2 of the 3 tracks in a lane. So, we should be 2 sec-
onds behind the bike in front. Maybe more while pulling trailers in other than good conditions. At a cruising
speed of 70 miles per hour you are traveling approximately 100 feet per second. At a 2 second interval, with
6 bikes (5 gaps), your group would stretch out 1000 feet. Longer than 3 football fields. Can you imagine
what is going through the mind of that 18 wheeler driver coming up in the left lane when the drag bike se-
cures the left lane for a team riding maneuver and he sees 6 bikes spread over 1000 feet slowing him down
and keeping that much longer from a day’s end? I retired from a trucking company. I know what he is think-
ing and it’s not nice. So, what do we do?
The Team Riding Manual mentions 2 other group riding styles. There is “Mass Riding” which is what you
generally see at poker and toy runs when all kinds of bikes are participating. It is generally undisciplined and
not recommended. There is also “Leisure Riding”. This is defined as traveling with a group of people you
know with some agreed upon techniques and ground rules. Many of these can come from the Team Riding
style; staggering, distance, speed, knowledge of the route, etc. Each rider is responsible for his own ride.
Our group fit the Leisure style more so than the Team style. When our speed slowed down and we were go-
ing through communities and cities, we were able to revert back to team concepts as not to get lost or separat-
ed. I can hear someone saying right now, “People are going to get all up in your formation!” Yes they will.
But, that happens in Team Riding as well, especially at entrance and exit ramps. The two second interval is
not designed to keep people out of your formation, it is to provide you with adequate reaction time for what
happens in front of you. Remember, the Motorist Awareness slogan is “Share the Road”, not “Get Off My
Road”.
Is it time to renew safe group riding skills in your chapter? I’ll bet it is! You find a place and a time and we
will get you the instructors. Call Mike Stevenson, Joan Partigianoni or me today.

District Directors,
It is no secret that our Membership numbers have been declining. This decline which has been out-pacing our
recruitment efforts has put many of our Chapters in peril. The Chapter legacy of being there for the next GWRRA
Member is in question.
None of us want to see a Chapter close and we cannot control in many instances the reasons for Membership loss.
We need to ask ourselves, what can we do to grow our membership? What can we do to help our Chapters re-vitalize
themselves while encouraging the Chapters to do a little more to preserve their legacy?
I believe we have an opportunity to accomplish just that, and you the District Directors, are the catalyst to encourage
that to happen. I often hear our Membership say and I will paraphrase, hopefully we can do this or do that. As we all
know, “Hope Is Not A Strategy.” We need to plan. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
There seems to be some confusion as to the Staff Position of the Chapter Motorist Awareness Coordinator. Some
believe the position was eliminated and some believe it kind of went away due to lack of interest. The reality is that
every Chapter needs and can have a Motorist Awareness Coordinator.
In case you have not thought of this, that Chapter Staff Position is now critical to the life of the Chapter.
A Motorist Awareness Event gives us an opportunity to potentially meet and recruit a motorcyclist who may be in their
4-wheel vehicle at the time they come upon our event. All Motorist Awareness Events are a golden opportunity for
recruiting and should be planned with that in mind. Even when we are just out riding or sitting in a restaurant, we are
educating the public to be aware of us. That said, the best opportunity for us to educate the public and recruit some
new Members could be a planned quarterly event. It does not take a lot of folks to accomplish this. Naturally, the bigger
the attendance, the greater the impact.
A Chapter Motorist Awareness Coordinator working with the Membership Enhancement Coordinator is a recipe for
being of service to our community while enhancing our opportunity to meet and recruit new Members.
So, District Directors, I am asking for your help in encouraging your Chapter Directors to ask that special person(s) in
their Chapter to take on this vital role and help the Chapter to survive. If they already have a Coordinator, perhaps a few
more events could be planned.
We have a very strong National Motorist Awareness Team dedicated to supporting your District efforts and the efforts
of the Chapters.
As always, Sherry and I appreciate everything you do and in advance, thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Grand
