Exhibit 1 About Akai Electric Co. Ltd Akai Electric Co, Ltd. (AECL) was founded in 1929 in Tokyo, Japan. The company was a huge success and went on to become one of Japan's leading electronic brands. The company is credited with several innovations like cross-field recording (facilitated high frequency recording), Interactive Monitor System (allowed the display of VCR information on the TV screen), etc. ‘The early 1990s saw the beginning of financial troubles for AECL. In 1993 and 1994, the company posted huge losses. The company sought capital assistance from Hong-Kong based Semi-Tech (Global) Co. In return Semi-Tech took a 55% stake in AECL and became Akai Holdings Ltd. (AHL). In 1999, the sales of AECL witnessed a sharp decline, and the company"s balance sheet showed a negative net worth. As of March 2000, the company had accumulated a debt in excess of 44 billion Yen and filed for rehabilitation with the Tokyo district court under a Jaw aimed at fast-track corporate revival.
