JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD gis Pretensioned Spun Concrete Piles A 5335-1987 1. Scope ‘This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the prestressed concrete piles manufactured by pretensioning and spinning process, hereinafter referred to as the "PC Piles", : Remark: In this Standard, the units and numerical values given in { } are in accordance with the International System of Units (SI), and are given for reference only. 2. Classification The PC piles shall be classified by the outside diameter into 300 mm, 350 mm, 400mm, 450 mm, 500 mm, 600mm, 700 mm, 800 mm, 1000 mm and 1200 mm, and the piles of respective outside diameters shall further be classified into Class A, Class B and Class C depending on the value of erack- ing bending moment. 3. Quality 3.1 Appearance The PC piles shall be free from defects such as detrimental flaws or cracks. 3.2 Bending Strength 3.2.1 Main Body The main body of the PC piles shall be subjected to the bending strength test specified in 8.1, and shall withstand the cracking bending moment given in Table 1 without showing any cracks. The breaking bending moment shall be not less than 1.5 times the cracking bending moment given in Table 1 for Class A, not less than 1.8 times for Class B and not less than 2.0 times for Class C. Construction 4.1 Construction of End Portion The construction of the end portion of PC piles shall be such that it can transmit the load safely to the foundation soil- 4.2. Construction of Head Portion The construction of the head portion of PC piles shall be such that it does not provide any hindrance in the piling operation. 5. Shape and Dimensions 5.1 Shape The PC pile shall be composed of the main body of hollow cylindrigal shape as shown in Fig. 1, and shall have the suitable end, jointing end or head, as necessary, ‘The outside diameter and wall thickness of > main body shall be uniform at any.cross section over the whole length. The length of an end’ fitting attached after the fabrication of the PC pile shall not be included in the length thereof. 3. There are various types of ends, e.g., closed type, open type, ete. 4. An upper or intermediate pile may be utilized as a lower pile by providing an end portion. 5.2 Dimensions and the dimensional 3 A 5335-1987 The dimensions of the PC piles shall conform to Table 2, tolerances to Table 3. } Table 2. The outside diameter of PC pile is defined as the average of two measurements taken along the axis at right angle to each other in a cross section. 1 @ 2. ‘The wall thickness of PC pile is defined as the average of, four measurements taken along the axis at right angle to each other in a cross section. 3. The tolerance of the outside diameter of the jointing end portion shall be+0.5 mm with respect to the outside diameter = 3. of PC pile specified in Table 2. 6. Materials 6.1 Cement The cement used shall conform to any of the following standards or be of the quality equal or superior to those. (1) JIS R 5210 i (2) JIS R 5211 (3) JIS R 9212 (4) JIS R 5213 6.2 Aggregates Aggregates shall be clean, rigid and durable, and shall not contain any detrimental amount of dust, mud, salts, organic matters or else. ‘The maximum size of coarse aggregate shall be not more than 25 mm. ‘The aggregates shall be subjected to the alkali-silica reaction test in accordance with Appendixes 7 or 8 of JIS A 5308 and be judged as harmless. However, when a measure for preventing the alkali-aggregate reaction is taken by selection of the aggregates and others according to Appendix 6 of JIS A 5308 or when only the aggregates complying with the following standards are used, that test may be omitted. : (2) JIS A 5011 (2) JIS A 5012 6.3 Water The water shall not contain any detrimental amount of oil, acids; ~" salts, organic matters or else, 6.4 Admixtures Admixtures, if used, shall be of such nature that will not give adverse effect to the product. When the fly ash, blowing agent, chemical admixture and inhibitor are used, they shall comply with the following standards: 5 A 5335-1987 (2) JIS A 6201 (2) SIS A 6202 : (3) JIS A 6204 (4) JIS A 6205, = 6.5 Steel Products 6.5.1 PC Steel The PC steel used for PC piles shall conform to either of the following, or one equal or superior to that in mechanical properties: (1) Deformed bar specified in JIS G 3109 (2) PC steel specified in JIS G 3536 6.5.2 Reinforcement The reinforcement used for PC piles shall conform to any of the following or be equivalent or superior to it in mechanical properties. ? () ais G aia i (2) JIS G 3101 (3) JIS G 3521 i (4) Ordinary ion wires specified in JIS G 9532 6.5.3 Steel Plates The steel plates used in PC piles shall comply with either of following standards or be equivalent or superior to those in mechanical properties: ; () ais G 3101 (2) JIS G 3106 7. Manufacture 7.1 PC Steels and Reinforcement ~ 7.1.1 The PC steels and reinforcement to be arranged in axial direction shall have a reinforcement ratio not less than 0.4 % with respect to the cross- sectional area of the pile, and shall be arranged as uniformly as practicable around the concentric circumference in every cross section of the PC pile, in due consideration of minimizing the variation of bending strength of the PC pile by radial direction. The clearance between the PC steels and reinforcement shall be not less than steel diameter and, at the same time, not less than 4/3 times the largest size of the coarse aggregates. 7.1.2 The additional spiral bars shall be arranged outside the axial PC steels and reinforcement. The additional bars shall be not less than 3 mm in diameter and be arranged at a piteh not more than 110 mm. 7.1.3 The covering shall be not less than 15 mm. Peta 7.1.4 For the PC steels and reinforcement, before being set up, free rust, oil, etc. which may hinder the adhesion of concrete shall be removed and they shall be set up in such a manner that they are fixed in the right position. - 6 A 5335-1987 7.2 Concrete 7.2.1 The quality.of conerete used for manufacturing the PC piles shall be not less than 500 kgf/cm? (4.90 kN/em?) in compressive strength when tested for a specimen cured in the same way as the product. The compressive strength testing shall be made for the specimen of 10 em in diameter and 20 cm in height in accordance with JIS A 1132 and JIS A 1108. 7.2.2 The materials used for the concrete shall be measured by mass. Water and liquid admixtures may be measured by volume. 7.2.3 The conerete shall be mixed thoroughly in a concrete mixer. 7.2.4 The amount of chlorides contained in the unsolidified conerete shall be not more than 0.30 kg/m? as chlorine ions. 1.3 Forming 1.3.1, The PC piles shall be formed according to the following procedure: Position the set up PC steels and reinforcement in the mould, pour the conerete in it so as the wall thickness of pile will be uniform, and compact the conerete into shape by centrifugal force. Before the process above-mentioned, | the PC steels shall be pretensioned to the required stress. ‘ 7.3.2 The pointed end, jointing ends or head, if fitted to the PC pile, shall be in correct position, and be fitted to make an integral part with the body. 7.4 Curing The curing shall be carried out by such a method that may ensure a satisfactory result about the quality of the product. 7.8 Method of Prestressing 7.8.1 The PC steels shall be arranged in right positions and prestressed, and the both ends thereof shall be fixed perfectiy so as for the PC steels _not to loosen. é : 7.5.2 The initial tension shall be enough to cause the required effective prestress, and be not more than 0.7 time the tensile strength or not more than 0.8 time the yield strength of the PC steel. 1.5.3 The prestress shall be introduced gradually. 7.6.4 The compressive strength of conerete when it is prestressed shall be not less than 3 times the prestress given and not less than 250 kgf/cm? (2.45 kN/em?}. In this case, the compressive strength testing shall be made in accordance with JIS A 1108 for a specimen of 10 cm in diameter and 20 cm in height cured in the same manner as for the product. 7.6 Jointing End 7.8.1 The jointing end of PC pile shall be of a construction having equivalent performance to the main body. 77 7 = A 5335-1987 F.G,2 The ends of PC steels shall be fixed to the joint fittings at the Joint- ing ends. ioe he, Jointing end stiall be made so that its end face is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the PC pile. = 7.6.4 The difference between the outside diameters of the joint fittings of the piles when jointed together shall be not more than 2 mm. 8. Bending Strength Test 8.1 The bending strength test of main body shall be made by the application of Vertical load P to the centre of the span, on the PC pile laid/on twa supports which has @ span equal to 3/5'of its length, as shown in Fig. 2. Loading Method £2 The breaking bending moment shall be obtained from the equation in 8-1 using the maximum value of the load P observed until the nc pile breaks. Inspection oe Fup chatacteristics to Be Inspected The inspection shall be made on Strength ot jenabe, dimensions, bending strength of main body, bending strength of jointing end, arrangement of PC steels and reinforcement. 8 A 5335-1987 9.2 Appearance, Shape and Dimensions The inspection on appearance and shape shall be made for all _products and the inspection for dimensions shall be made for the piles sampled from a set of PC piles, and when the requirements of 3.1 and 5. are satisfied; this set shall be acceptable as a whole. Number of PC piles included in set and number of PC piles to be sampled are decided in accordance with the agreement between thevparties concerned in delivery. 9.3 Bending Strength of Main Body and Jointing End 9.3.1 The cracking inspection for main body shall be made by making the cracking test in accordance with 8.1 for the two PC piles sampled from a lot of PC piles, and the whole lot shall be decided as acceptable, if both two meet the requirements of 3.2. In the case where either of the two fails to meet the requirements of 3.2, additional four piles sampled from the lot shall be subjected to cracking test, and the whole lot shall be decided as acceptable, if all the four meet the requirements. The size of lot shall be determined upon agreement between the parties concerned. 9.3.2 In the destructive inspection of main body, either of the initial two samples shall be tested in accordance with 8.2, and the whole lot shall be decided as acceptable, if they meet the requirements of 3.2. ‘The destructive inspection may be omitted, subject to an agreement between the parties concerned. 9.3.3 The jointing end shall be inspected similarly to the main body. This inspection, however, may be omitted, subject to an agreement between the parties concerned. 9.4 Arrangement of PC Steels and Reinforcement The inspection on arrange- ment of the PC steels and reinforcement shall be made for the PC pile which has been subjected to the destructive inspection in accordance with 9.3.2, and the arrangement shall be decided as acceptable, if it meets the require- ments of 7.1. On that occasion, the wall thickness of the broken part in the PC pile shall also be inspected. 10. Designation The PC piles shall be designated in the order of the symbol PC indicating pretensioned spun concrete pile, classification, outside diameter (mm) and length (m). Example: PC-A 500-11 11, Marking ‘The PC piles shall be marked with the following particulars: (2) Besigietion (2) Manufacturer's name or its abbreviation (3) Name or abbreviation of manufacturing works (4) Date of forming Reference; o 9 A 5335-1987 The following Reference Table shows the long term acceptable axial loads and the masses of the PC piles for the reference Of practical use.
