Feasibility Proposal

A Proposed Recovery Treatment for Spent

Bleaching Earth used for Soy Bean Oil
Processing of Universal Robina Corporation
Bleaching Earth
• generally composed of one or more of three types of clay minerals:
calcium montmorillonite, attapulgite, and sepiolite
• Removes undesirable impurities that would impart color, odor and
taste to the soy bean oil product through adsorptive cleansin
• Spent Bleaching Earth usually contains residual oil which can oxidize
and could spontaneously ignite, emits green house gases to the
atmosphere
Target Market: Universal Robina Corporation
• Makes use of Bleaching Earth for soy bean production
• Disposal of Spent Bleaching Earth to a direct landfill in Bulacan
causing worry and problems to the community
• In the Philippines, there are no available scientific solution
Solution
• Recover and Conversion of Spent Bleaching Earth into bio organic
fertilizer by co-composting it with some agricultural and soy bean oil
milling by-products
• Recover and reuse Spent Bleaching Earth for waste minimization
