The Wellcome Trust is an independent charity funding research to improve human and animal health.
Established in 1936 and with an endowment of around £10 billion, it is the UK’s largest non-governmental
source of funds for biomedical research.

The Joint Global Health Trials Scheme, a partnership between the UK Department for International
Development, the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), the National Institute for Health Research and the
Wellcome Trust, funds late-stage trials of interventions that will provide evidence to help improve health in low-
and middle-income countries.

Elegibilidade
Academic groups based in the UK or in Low- or Middle-Income Countries can apply to the Global Health Trials
scheme.
The trials should be based in low- or middle-income countries.
Proposals should address major health-related problems in low- and middle-income countries, particularly those
that affect the most vulnerable populations.
Wellcome Trust will give priority to proposals that are likely to produce results that can be implemented.

Valor Financiado
Up to £20 million is available to fund several awards.
Development grants are up to £150,000.00 each.
Support includes:

1. Research expenses of the trial;

2. Trial steering and data monitoring committee costs;
3. Trial management costs (such as salary and training).
