L.Objectives
lo investigate the operation of the FOTEx Transmitter modules using a
OC voltage thena low Frequency triangular wave:
To investigate the operation of the POTExReceivermodules for unloading
analog information.
“Toinvestigate theoperotion oF theFOTEx Receiver modules for unloading
digital information from a fiber optic transmission live.
T. Theoretical Background
One of the many ad vantages of using optical fiber over copper cable for
Aransmilting signals over long distances is the much lower levels of loss
involved. Thismeons that fewer repeaters are required which provides for
enormous cost ond enengy sovingslespecially for underwater fiber optic
instollotions)
For the commercial fiber optic transmission systems used in telecommunication,
losses ane minimized by using light inthe infrax ned region of the electromagnetic
spectrum(specifically ot wavelengths between (300mm and 1700 nm)and by
using laser light sources. However, aS you krow, infra-red light is not visible fo
humans and loser light can readily cause injury to eyes(Emona Insiruments2009)

WL Discussion of Results
The data table results shows the maximum threshold and minimum threshold of the
transmitter. The maximum is delermined by increasing the voltage until the LEO wilt" on'. while, the
minimum is recordes bby decreasing the voltage from its moximom Hhreshald until reaching,
