1. Provide each group of students with the following:
a. a copy of the “Student Instructions” (page 1) b. the article title (page 1) c. paragraphs (scrambled; pages 2-7) d. a copy of the associated questions (pages 9-10) e. a large piece of butcher paper 2. Students work to organize the paragraphs into logical order. 3. Check student work and confirm when paragraphs are in correct order. (The key is on page 11 of this document.) Students glue paragraphs down on their butcher paper. 4. Have students respond to the justification questions in student instructions on their butcher paper. 5. Have groups answer associated questions - check student work, and group with most correct answers “wins.”

Once you’ve arranged them, have your teacher check your work! 3. When you have them in the correct order, glue them down. 4. Then, answer the following two questions beside each paragraph on your butcher paper: a. Why has your group placed this particular paragraph in this particular place? (Provide a clear justification of your choice.) b. What is the author’s purpose in this paragraph?
