Term 3 Week 8
Hi everyone,

We would like to thank you all for your understanding when we had to close school due to the power outage last
Wednesday. Obviously we can't predict these things, but as we had no water or heating the Ministry insists we
cannot be open.

Learner-Led Conferences
Our learner-led conferences showcased the learning in each of our classrooms and it was excellent to have such
high attendance. Our learners were very proud to share their achievements, goals, and classroom work with you.

Some feedback that was received:

“Great for the kids confidence in presentation”

“Cool to see the kids own videos and goals”

“Love how they explain their work”

“Was interesting to learn ways to help at home”

“Really valuable - awesome to hear how proud she is in her own learning environment”

Mathex
We had two teams of year six students competing at the Wanganui Mathex
competition last week on Thursday evening. This competition involves working
in a team of four to solve maths
problems as quickly as possible.
Teams came from as far as Bulls
and the competition was fierce.
Well done to the following students
for your participation:

Zhane, Oliver, Lorcan, Tewaiarani,

Maddie, Isobelle, Devin, Jack

appreciate you planning your grazing programme around
the school calendar!!

We would like to shout out a huge thank you to Nicole Sinclair. She noticed that
many of our learners had developed an interest in making and jumping jumps,
so she has gone ahead and made these wonderful jumps for them. NIcole - they
are a real hit - watch this space on Pet Day!!

Duffy Role Model Assembly

This assembly is on Thursday 12th September at 11.30. Joanne Guy will be the
role model. You are welcome to come along to this assembly.
Affectionately known as Granny Jo by Duffy Schools, Jo has four children and
fourteen grandchildren. She and her husband Bryan dairy farmed for over 40
years near Feilding and now enjoy their large garden with many native birds and
trees. Jo has been a wardrobe stylist for twenty years. For seven years she and
her daughter Nikki owned ‘Reve’ a women’s clothing boutique in Palmerston
North.

The store closed in 2010 but Jo still maintains her interest in fashion and runs wardrobe styling workshops. She
writes inspirational blogs for www.makelemonade.co.nz and has also written and published two children’s
books. 'Snooty Stanley' and ‘Stanley Meets Bob Cat the Bully'.
Jo visits schools as an author and role model for the Duffy Books in Homes foundation. She loves nothing better
than to inspire and encourage children to read and have a dream.
Pet Day - Tues 17th Sept (Back up day - Thurs 19th)
Pet Day meeting Tuesday 10th Sept - BOARD MEMBERS ONLY
Can we please have all the Pet Day cups returned to
school.
On Pet Day we will have some raffles, so can we
please have 1 or 2 grocery items per family, and if
you have something you'd like to donate towards a
Children's raffle that would be great as well. Please
send these to school by this Thursday
Dads and Men - remember to have your cake ideas sorted.
Please look out for more information coming out on Pet Day later in the week.

Meat Raffle
Congratulations to the winner of the raffle of half a beast - Ticket number 170, Janine Maruera. Many thanks to
everyone for selling and buying these tickets, and especially to Alison and Andrew Hurley for the donation of the
raffle.

Recipe Books for Sale!

We have managed to source some beautiful recipe books which
we are able to sell. These would make a wonderful gift or even
Christmas presents. The books are $45 each, and our school gets
$20 for every book sold, and the other $25 goes directly to
Ronald McDonald house - so two very deserving causes. We
have a sample of the book at school if you would like to have a
look at it. These books will be available for orders at Pet Day or
leave your orders at the office.
