things you do to prepare when you have to attend an
extravagant party. Why are those things necessary?

How did John the Baptist prepare the way?
John created a favorable environment for people to come to
God and making it easy for Jesus to enter into and operate in
the lives of people.
1. He preached about repentance
Matthew 3:1-2 in those days John the Baptist came
preaching in the wilderness of Judea. “Repent for the
Kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
To repent means to change in mental and spiritual
attitude towards sin.
How quick do we repent from our sins? How can we influence
others to do the same?
2. He taught about confession for the forgiveness of
sins (Luke 3: 3-4)
3. He baptized people as a sign that they turned away
from their sins
If John had not prepared the people, Jesus could not
have built on a foundation. Many, like John carry on
ministries of tremendous importance to prepare for the
future, but are seldom recognized for that role. Our
encouragement for each one is to remain faithful in the
ministry of preparation so that God’s work might go
forward unimpeded.
Later, when John the Baptist enters his ministry, he is
asked who he is. His answer: “I am the voice of one
calling in the dessert, ‘Make straight the way of the
lord.’” (John 1: 23)
Are there people in our lives whom we should share
about repentance, forgiveness and baptism?
