SAFETY RULES IN THE WORKSHOP

 Always listen carefully to the teacher and follow instructions.

 Wear good strong shoes, training shoes are not suitable.

 When attempting practical work, all stools should be put away.

 Bags should not be brought into the workshop as people can trip over them.

 Do not use a machine if you have not been shown how to operate it safely by the teacher.
 Always be patient, never rush into the workshop.

 Keep hands away from moving/ rotating machines.

What is an Industry?
An industry is the sector of an economy made up of manufacturing enterprises and economic activities concerned with the
processing of raw materials and manufacture of goods in factories.

The Construction Industry


The section of national economy engaged in administration, alteration, repairing of structures and materials to construct
buildings.

The Manufacturing Industry

The branch of manufacture based on the processing or preparation of products for use

The Electrical and Electronic Industry


This sector deals with the use of electricity to produce materials and electronic devices
.

THE BRANCHES OF THE CONSTRUCTION SECTORS


Residential
The business of constructing houses or buildings designed for people to dwell in for the benefit of one.

Industrial
The construction of large structures and buildings for the production of materials.

Commercial
The business of constructing buildings concerned with or engaged in the buying and selling of goods
and services.

Civic
Section concerned with the creation of infrastructure involving anything to do with water, earth or transport.

Developing products progressively in large quantities.

Conduct regular inspections to identify faulty equipment, test new equipment before use, caring of devices, keep records of
maintenance and activities for long lasting.

Owner – A person who owns something, one who has the legal or rightful title to something. In general the owner is
initially responsible for all of the project risks, as it is usually the owners decision to execute the project or
not.

Consultants – Provide independent and objective advice to organizations to define and achieve their
goals through improved utilization of resources. They help companies achieve their
business objectives by making better use of their skills and experiences or improving
organizational structures and processes.

Architect – Someone who is specifically trained and licensed to work on the planning and design of
buildings.

General Contractor – An individual responsible for the day-to-day operations and oversight of a
construction project. The general contractor hires specialized subcontractors to
perform all or portions of the construction work.

Subcontractor – A person who is hired by a general contractor to perform a specific task as part of the
overall project.

First-tier Subcontractor – A person hired by the primary subcontractor to perform work on the
customer's project.

Second-tier Subcontractor – A person hired by the first-tier subcontractor to perform specific tasks.

Third-tier Subcontractor - A person hired by the second-tier subcontractor to perform services that is
unable to complete due to a lack of ability or a tight deadline.

Material Supplier – An individual responsible for planning, directing or coordinating the process of
buying materials, products and services.

MEPF Consultants – Plan and design in the area of mechanical, electrical and plumbing system
including developing policies standards

Matrix
A mixture of different people with different skills and experience in an organization working together to complete a
particular task.

Owner – Responsible for all the project risks.

Architect – Plans and design buildings.

Landscape Architect – Design outdoor areas, landmarks and structures to achieve environmental
social-behavioral or aesthetic outcomes.
Civil Consultants – Provide expert advice on the design, planning and management of civil
construction projects

Geotechnical Consultant – Investigate and understand what is beneath the earth's surface.They figure
out the impact that geological formations may have on construction
projects and design.

Structural Consultants – Analyze, design and research structural components to achieve design goals
and ensure the safety and comfort of users.

Semi-skilled – Has some training and skills, but not enough to do specialized work.

Skilled – A worker that has the knowledge, ability or training to perform a certain task well.

Technician( Supervisory)- Performs supervisory work in the administration of construction activities,


managing contracts on projects, and supervising the allocation of human
resources and other resources for projects.

Technologist/ Master Craftsman – A person highly skilled and thoroughly experienced in a


particular field of work.

Professional – A person extremely skilled, specific activity or qualified in a profession
