Data Analysis

1
Data analysis in qualitative research is defined as the process of systematically searching and
arranging the interview transcripts, observation notes, or other non-textual materials that the
researcher accumulates to increase the understanding of the phenomenon.

The researchers made use of Smith and Osborn (2007) stages of data analysis using the
Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis.

1. Looking for the themes in the first case

With the aid of video recorder, the researchers listen to the data gathered number of times,
then followed by taking notes of the significant and credible response of the co-researchers that is
used in the documentation of the themes.

2. Connecting the themes

The emergent themes were recorded by the researchers to determine the connections and
relevance between them. The initial list was in chronological order based on the sequence which
they came up in the transcript. As the researcher go further, some of the themes were dropped and
the final list was comprised of numerous superordinate themes and subthemes.
