Initial Design

Having the consideration of the Vitruvian Man and Golden ratio and based the ideal measurements with
measuring the length of the actual model of a human arm, the researchers have the initial concept of
length of the arm shown on figure

Figure show that the length of the forearm and arm are equal which the Vitruvian man stated. Also the
summation of the palm and fingers follows the number of the Fibonacci sequence or the golden ratio
which stated that the hand is approximately equal to 1.618 times of the forearm. Changes may occur
due to complexity of the measurement.

The animatronic arms width are based on the width of the model human arm. Since the fabrication
process for the arm would be manual cutting, the researchers decided to design the shape of the arm
with planar surfaces and avoid complex shapes for easy fabrication. Despite of not having complex
shapes, the design of the arm still resembles human arm.

The first idea for the prototype is to manual cut all of the parts including the palm and fingers. As shown
on figure , the palm and fingers have flat planes so that it can be cut on the PVC Sheets.
